Amazon is also selling it for $26.50 new or 23.32 used through Amazon Warehouse: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPK3XWW/
I bought the last generation of this drive and have been completely impressed with it. It does get a little hot though if you're writing to it a lot. I needed a bigger drive though and noticed that it was on sale, so enjoy!
I don't know about the fidgeting factor but just a thing these are USB 2.0 which is pretty old and slow by today's standards. These should be much more usable in 2020, counting both storage and speed
Any good quality flash drive/SSD should work just fine. The service center must have spare Tesla USB flash drive for testing. They can easily find out if a "Tesla USB flash drive" would fix your problem.
And after all, the Tesla USB flash drive is just a rebranded Samsung drive. This one: Amazon.com: Samsung BAR Plus USB 3.1 Flash Drive 128GB - 300MB/s (MUF-128BE3/AM) - Champagne Silver: Computers & Accessories
You can try a factory resetting your system too. It's in the Service menu.
Kingston have some good and BAD models. No brand is immune to having crap for USB drives. They'll sell cheap garbage to get the money from those that only buy cheap.
I use these now, and have found them reliable and fast.
Samsung BAR

Pretty much any USB 3.0 thumb drive will do the trick. I would recommend a name brand, but they're all pretty inexpensive. Here's the one I have... 128GB for $20 - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=sr\_1\_11?crid=10WKMC42ULSIL&keywords=usb+thumb&qid=1662670050&sprefix=usb+thumb%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-11
That memory stick is manufactured by Siemens. You don’t have to pay for Tesla mark up. Just get a new one. Memory sticks die all the time.
Samsung BAR Plus 128GB - 400MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive Champagne Silver (MUF-128BE3/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Y6VHEGJ4CJYSK5CBP67D
I use the Samsung BAR. It's water proof and metal so its pretty damn indestructible. Haven't had any issues using it with CDJs.
you went with some cheapo brand didnt u?
trust me you dont need a tb usb stick even if you have all wavs
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RZK9BPNQND35B68D9N7Z
get that and youll never have an issue for the rest of your gigging life
That's fair, as long as you don't keep having them die on you and ultimately result in money being completely wasted.
This is the thumb drive I use for random everyday storage purposes, kept on my keychain: Samsung BAR Plus USB 3.1 Flash Drive 128GB
It should probably work, but I've never used it for the Xbox One so can't vouch for how it compares to a proper SSD.
It says $19.99 for me, but the all-metal Samsung Bar 128gb is saying $17.99. Are they comparable? Both of them claim USB 3.1 but when you scroll down to the specs it says hardware USB 3.0.
That is pretty slow, but in my experience most thumb drives are going to be dog slow outside of sequential file transfers (large video files, for example). Even on more expensive thumb drives with high rated speeds, the IOPS is low enough that performance can easily drop to 1-3MB/sec while transferring small files.
If you got it for the price it's currently at on amazon ($15.99) and aren't hindered by the low speeds, I would keep it. It's not that bad for the price.
If you really need/want better speeds, this Samsung drive will be much faster all around (16MB/s even on small files, according to tests by amazon reviewers)
I use the Samsung Bar Plus ones, never had any issues and like their durability so far especially for the price/speed ratio.

I would recommend any USB drive that has the normal thumb drive size, has a USB 3.0 interface, is formatted to FAT32, and comes from a reputable company like Sandisk and Samsung.
Here's one with a metal casing for good heatsinking: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/
If you're looking for a good price on a large flash drive, this 128 GB metal (gunmetal or silver) Samsung drive is only $28 right now (Amazon prices fluctuate quickly):
$28.49 gets you a 128GB Samsung BAR Plus on Amazon right now. Speeds up to 300 MB/s. Still a 5 Year warranty.
Yup that's exactly what it is
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-64GB-Champagne/dp/B07BPK3XWW?th=1
I use it for DJing lol. I will say, it's reliable like hell!
Interesting.
As /u/chillaban stated it looks like the Samsung BAR but the specs themselves seem identical to the one they recommend in the manual.
Can anyone spot the difference? I mean, even the price is the same.
I thought maybe one handles thermals better than the other, but no. Like, same drive, but different.
I've been using this with no issues.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
I'm happy with the Samsung BAR Plus. It's one piece of solid metal and built like a tank.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1
Been using them forever, never had a issue.
This is the one I have. It’s solid. Samsung BAR Plus 128GB - 400MB/s USB 3.1 Flash Drive Champagne Silver (MUF-128BE3/AM) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_H0TNVERZKS4XR8B8H70B
Something like this claims 400MB/s: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
I'm not looking for FAST speed. I basically just want to play a few games in windows on it. Would this cut it?
This one claims 400MB/s, however I KNOW Windows speed will be unbearable on it: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
Or will it be OK? I know different file sizes are treated differently.
Holy shit!! This explains why that happened to me last weekend
The thumb drive Tesla gives you is a Tesla branded Samsung BAR: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
I actually recommend the Samsung FIT: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MUF-256AB-AM-Plus-256GB/dp/B07D7Q41PM
Page 71 of the Tesla Model 3 manual recommends about 4 storage mediums, of which the 64GB FIT is at the top, but if you get a bigger thumb drive, it has faster speeds, and will perform better.
Here’s a 400 M/Bs flash drive: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
You can get faster flash drives: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/
Magnetic-proof, Metal body, Shockproof, Temperature-proof, Waterproof, X-ray-proof etc
It's a rebranded Samsung BAR.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW
That being said, the Samsung FIT works best for me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D7PDLXC
everyone seems to be saying it is a suspicious flash drive, and i would agree.
to get actual proof, download this software, https://h2testw.en.lo4d.com/windows which will attempt to write data to the entire reported size of the drive. (make sure to remove any data first)
Afterwards it will attempt to read the data back and once it finds errors, it will show you the actual true capacity of the drive. (because it is probably a smaller USB drive in disguise, with less true storage)
if it does come back with errors, don't use the drive anymore, even for less than the real capacity, as there is no way to tell windows/ Mac OS? that there really isn't that much storage available. reprogramming the firmware of the drive really isn't worth it or the risk, when a real 128GB flash drive is like $20
Thanks for the response! Yeah I'm thinking of going the USB route now. Do I just format an external drive as a Mac disk image in disk utilities, and install the Mac OS on it?
Would this work with a USB flash drive like the Samsung Bar: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=samsung%2Bbar&qid=1607903621&sr=8-2&th=1
or a microSD card : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FCMKK5X/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
or: does it have to be a specific kind of external hard drive?
Regarding: virtual machines: the ProctorU software detects them so that won't be an option, or they won't run on them.
If I am not mistaken that USB stick is a rebranded Samsung usb stick, which is the same one I got. But maybe there's some minor differences.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/
Dude.
It came from Amazon and is the official product listing. It isn't counterfeit.
I use this one and it works great. It doesn't get the speeds that it claims but none of them ever do.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BPK3XWW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Would the Samsung Bar Plus 128 GB USB 3.1flash drive work for both tails and the blockchain? I am on a budget

That makes sense.
I was actually looking at this https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW/
In the heat of Summer, is that ever an issue at all? I live in Texas!
Yes.
I bought a hub and it won't work on that, but it has been working fine when directly plugged into the Tesla USB port. No dropouts or anything.
I have this: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-128GB-MUF-128BE3/dp/B07BPK3XWW?th=1
I am highly leaning towards the Samsung Bar Plus 128GB USB 3.1 or Kingston Data Traveler 128GB USB 3.0 and I am worried about the speed. The Samsung 3.1 USB has a read speed of only 300 MB/s for USB 3.1, although I can't take advantage of the 3.1 right now, shouldn't it be much faster read speed or am I thinking of the write speed?
Thanks.
I also saw these as being recommended, but I'm not seeing how they'd be different from my original thought...
here is another one, also great. not as fast as the sandisk, but even cheaper. its a samsung, 128 gb, for only 28 dollars. can hit around 200mg a second. also, its durable, all metal. i used one, and it is very fast for a flash drive.
You can get a 64gb drive off amazon for $12. The 32gb ones are a buck or two cheaper
