Assuming you’ll grab a pro/air with usb c, I got one of these a while ago, and worked fine transferring a bunch of stuff between my ipad/pc/old mac/wife’s MacBook
SanDisk Ultra 128 GB Dual Type-C... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EZ0X55C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Other versions are available Trick’ll be making sure you have an app on the ipad that’ll open whatever you’re copying over, although if it’s just to get them uploaded to Dropbox or whatever, that won’t be so important. At the risk of talking you out of it though, looked into getting one of those LTE routers instead?
This is a 3.1 usb that can plug directly into her Mac (because it’s usb c in addition to the traditional usb).
Would this be something would work? I’m unfamiliar with read/write speeds.
I super appreciate your help
SanDisk 128GB Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C - USB-C, USB 3.1 - SDDDC2-128G-G46 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ0X55C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Q6J4P98AE0BXC0E1KD44
you should scan them too and keep them in a safe place... they make encrypted USB thumb drives that you can back all of your information to and they have USB C and USB adaptors on them so all you do is grab that and run in a fire or storm or whatever ... and then you can print out all your stuff from your phone..
I am not suggesting this item... do your own research to find a good one.. this might be it.. i just found this quick on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Drive-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C
you can plug it into your computer or phone and then there are ways on your phone that you can print out your documents once you are in a safe situation. Tax Forms or Deed or Car Titles whatever you might need... also you can keep a photo of your car insurance and ID on your phone...
Anyway .. good luck
Yeah Sandisk
This one

Good thing windows didn't take too long to install (we had a 0 touch install) so didn't need to be installed that long.
Also laptop was metal so maybe that helped a little?
Okay thanks, my USB flash drive is a pretty good one and I already installed distros like Pop!_OS on way cheaper ones. I need one that has usb c because I want to try gnome 40 on a surface go that only has a usb c port. That's the drive I use: https://www.amazon.de/SanDisk-Ultra-Dual-Flash-Laufwerk-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=usb+c+usb+stick&qid=1617542678&sr=8-5
> rarely find a screen
Pretty much all portable monitors are Type C now. Many desktop monitors are moving in that direction, too. My 34" ultrawide is Type C. So no, this is not true.
> rarely find a thumb drive
There are tons of them of you look beyond your "hardware store's" outdated selection. Here's one for $25 that has both Type A and C: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01EZ0X55C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_EDEN9C47RMVWB1MD9SHG

Thank you! I thought I was going nuts. Like there's just 2 thunderbolt 3 USB C ports on the XPS 13.
Bought myself one of these and called it a day. Bonus is it works on my phone too 🤷♂️
Yep, that's exactly how I have my library set up; I use a bunch of these SanDisk 128GB USB-C Dual flash drives and have 3-4 of them cloned at a time in case of loss / damage, etc.
For software, although examination software are available on tablets, my school requires all exam takers to have a laptop to do their examinations. Tablets are strictly not allowed but since you already have a laptop available for use, I believe it should be sufficient.
I've previously been in a class where Excel Add-ins are required (which is only available on a laptop), hence, you might need your laptop for this!
You might need a dongle or two if you want to present/project your screen onto the projector. Although this wouldn't be much of a problem in classrooms, in clubrooms/external meetings, it may be a bit tedious (though you can borrow the other members' laptops for this).
Printing, however, might be a problem — depending on your school, you might not be able to send a print job wirelessly to the online printing queue. You might have to bring along a thumbdrive/email yourself the notes and visit the library to send it for printing.
i had no issues using this drive https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-128GB-Type-C-SDDDC2-128G-G46/dp/B01EZ0X55C with a Samsung phone to clear out the corrupt files with the default usb browser that opens when plugging in with the usb-c side. Then just flip it back to usb-a and plug back in the car. If it helps, I'm also using this drive with a splitter sharing with the Nomad wireless charger as well as using the 2 partition method for using this one drive for dash cam + music.

Let's just say that my decision to skip on an HDD and go all SSDs didn't work out when I started going to uni and couldn't torrent for 8 months straight...
I have the below Sandisk Ultra, works on my MBP and iPad Pro without issue. And if I use a Lighting to USB adapter works on my iPhone.
I got this one and works like a charm
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ0X55C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I picked up a USB-C flash drive on Amazon. It should get here before my MacBook Pro does.
Something like this from SanDisk maybe?
We don't use USB-C thumb drives at my work, so YMMV.
I don't think you can, in the same way you can't plug two PCs to each other and see their hard drives.
I think the best option is to use SMB (instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos/comments/kk86rh/ways_to_transfer_files_from_pc_to_chromebook_and/).
Failing that, a USB drive, there are dual USB A/C drives with 128 GB from SanDisk (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EZ0X55C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1).
I use this
SanDisk 128GB Ultra Dual Drive... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ0X55C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I've used this for a while ever since I switched to macbook pro: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Drive-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C
on my 3rd one now (1st stolen, 2nd i thought was lost, so I bought 3rd and later found the 2nd one too). I've never been a repeat customer for electronics, but this one is just so good.
Anyway, because you mentioned ipad air I plugged mine into my ipad air 5 (2022) just now. it should be detected automatically when you open files. it took a good minute before it showed up tho. Maybe just try to wait a bit?
I use this one. It's USB-A and USB-C in one. No adapter needed.

Just to add to some of the other replies: I plan on using one of these for quick transfers when I get my Deck instead of having to remove the sdcard. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Drive-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C
Though for long transfers, it might be better to use a hub with power on it so you can leave it plugged in while doing transfers.

This is what I mean
I have used this product and it has been fine for general use. Comes in multiple sizes, has both USB C and USB A port, and it supports USB 3.1 and has faster speeds than what you mention.
Consider a Samsung T5/7 or other external SSD if you want much faster speed but also more size, weight, and having to use the proper cable
1: usb c/usb 3.1 usb stick, meaning you can use this usb stick on "regular" usb ports and then switch to the USB C port for using on your MBA.
Cheap, and will help you easily copy/move work between college PCs and your Macbook, back up projects etc... Maybe buy 2.... Pretty much essential for a student.

2: external usb c hard drive to make time machine backups to. You will want to make regular back ups in Time Machine, in the event you have a software issue and need to reinstall MacOS, a time machine backup makes life a lot easier, ditto if you need to move all your data to a new Macbook if it gets replaced.... No excuse to to have a regular backup of all your data stored on your Mac.
sample Crucial USB C external hard drive. I have a x6 in 512GB for making regular backups.
They a pretty cheap for what you get.

After that:
(sample Anket usb c to hdmi cable)
Personally I use a cheap usb A to usb C I got in the box with my Google Pixel which works just fine.... You can easily use these if you don't want to carry a hub in your bag.
Maybe this design?

To me, the IR blaster is obsolete because most people aren't watching their TVs over UHF/VHF anymore. You've probably got a Roku, Tivo, Nvidia Shield, set-top box, etc. at home. For each of those, there are device-specific apps that emulate the functions and give you a visual display layout that looks like your remote or something similar. Outside of the occasional prank of messing with the volume at restaurants, I just don't see much real-world usage for them.
With internal storage getting larger, I no longer care about sd cards, although I don't hate the option. I do hate having to figure out which storage I put stuff on when navigating in the file manager. Also, a lot of sd cards have dogshit transfer rates, and they're not the best option if you want to quickly pass some data over to someone else or a PC. You have to work to get them out of the slot, find an adapter, and hope not to lose them since they're so tiny, or you have to hook your phone up to a PC and navigate to the contents that way.
For the situations where I need extra storage for something like 360 videos, I actually prefer using a USB-C thumb drive like this one or a Samsung T5 for even more storage. I don't like media that require special adapters. That's just a personal preference.

Thats the same one ive got lol (but its 32gb) its filled to the brim with whatever I need to transfer, mostly torrented tv and movies, sims screenshots (I take them seriously. I liken them to a family photo album) and schoolwork.
My Acer Spin 1 (edit - also my xiaomi phone too) hated that thing but my 10yo modded HP with parts from various years with stock windows pro, my iPad Air and my MacBook Air don't make a fuss about it.
So there are loads of things like this, here is one
SanDisk Ultra 128 GB Dual Type-C USB 3.1 Flash Drive, Silver https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EZ0X55C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_XD8WSDZ3SDAKR2VT2BW8
Did you figure it out?
I am looking at https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6220791?hl=en&ref_topic=6156061 and it says like you can back up like 15 GB of photo/data per day.
I was thinking like OTG cable from Pixel to NAS, like one goes to Pixel, other side goes to NAS? I saw one of my friend had one which was like a Hub with ethernet port, I am not sure if it will work though.
Lastly, I was thinking about like USB C Drive they have, like eg. https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Drive-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C Since Google Photos is limited you to 15 GB upload everyday, might even buy smaller capacity ones. Like you copy around 15 GB everyday from NAS to that Drive, connect it to Pixel and let it back up all photos from it, and then do it again next day, etc.
Why not drop the USB hub and use a USB C compatible flash memory stick .

It's a lot cheaper to just buy one of these https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Drive-Type-C/dp/B01EZ0X55C
you know they make dual usb-c/usb-a flash drives?
I wonder if people complained like this when the world switched over from stiffy's to usb-a?
Here I've solved your problem at a much cheaper price.
For anyone in the U.K. you can get this for just £17.89 on Amazon! I bought it a year ago and it’s still that cheap for 128GB.

Well see, this is the thing about the MBP's butterfly keyboard, it's like no other keyboard I've ever used before. The keys have a decent amount of space between them, at least for a laptop, but the keys themselves are so low, so flush to the case, I just don't get how dust/crumbs/etc actually even gets in under the keys tbh. Only way I can see stuff getting in is when you press the key, so you'd have to already have stuff laying on/around the key waiting to get in when you pressed it for something to get under the key.
It's not like a desktop keyboard where you drop something on it and it just disappears between the keys, you can easily wipe/blow off whatever you dropped on the keys off without having them suffer as long as you don't press the affected keys themselves and (obviously) whatever you dropped wasn't liquid. (I've had to do this, accidentally spilled some crumbs from morning toast on my keyboard very early on, was deathly scared I had just killed my keyboard but I just blew them off with a can of compressed air).
I too am using my MBP for programming and I love the keyboard. I sort of miss having an actual physical escape key and function keys, but I've slowly gotten over it. Don't mind having only C ports, got a sandisk dual flash drive one side C the other A, and a portable hub from alldongles.com and I'm totally set.
You want a USB C flash drive.
