I know the switch is much less powerful than this console but I've never had problems installing and playing games with the micro sd, it generally runs well, and if the guys at valve put the option for it maybe it does work
Also, wouldn't a card like this work for the games?

switch does issue them and so far for me they work well even for "demanding" games
also, this seems quite a good speed of reading, so maybe it could work?
