Hmm so I changed the tessellation to 8x and was getting pretty dec performance for a while with a few dips to the 30s, but today for some reason it was chugging at more than just a single point to even the 20-30 range. And it was just in the woods with some wind ):
Not sure what that was about. This is my card, and it's not much slower than yours. http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-Version-Graphics-11244-00-20G/dp/B00ZGL8CYY?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
The only other thing I changed was shadows from ultra to high, and still kept hairworks turned off. Quite frustrating. All I want are the highest quality settings with smooth gameplay ):
Amazon listings. Consequently, the buyer I was helping out had Amazon credit he was trying to spend. I don't know why they're priced so high. I agree that it's way too much for a 390, even OC. The same product is listed on Newegg at $100 less.
Any of the newer AMD graphics cards lol, like the 390. Cause not only do I need a graphics card better than my trash 5750, i'd like to be able to do start doing computer component reviews on youtube.
Oh and there's another one listed with reviews that fall more in line with what I've read on Overclock.net and Tomshardware if you care to read them. But still always be wary of amazon "reviewers".
Good to know that. I was quite hinging towards the MSI Twin Frozr variant owing to good cooling solutions.
Edit: Is this the one you are talking about ?
wow, so what's the point of getting any Nvidia cards if I can get the radeon equivalent which will outperform Nvidia massively in certain games in a year or 2? They're the same price as well. http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-Version-Graphics-11244-00-20G/dp/B00ZGL8CYY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441081145&sr=8-1&keywords=radeon+390&pebp=1441081151649&perid=051GRSSH2RQB1KY2Y59H
I think I'm better off with that card right?
That looks like a great high end gaming system. Make sure to hit up /r/overclocking to get the best use out of that processor.
Honestly, find the cheapest kit of RAM you can. There will be negligible performance difference.
Those graphics cards are fantastic for higher resolution gaming, but I suggest putting two of these bad boys in instead of the 290s. The ones I linked have more VRAM than the card you described.
I figured the GPU being my current 'bottleneck' if you will was probably the case. I checked out a few versions of the R9 390 and that looks like a great addition. Not too insane when it comes to price, but very competitive benchmarks. I've added http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZGL8CYY/ to my temporary plan, as it seems to be the only one without a forced color scheme, and I still haven't settled on one (though I have mostly blue/black right now).
Also was wondering, would it be suggested to upgrade the graphics card to Sapphire Radeon NITRO R9 390 8GB GDDR5 DVI-D / HDMI / TRIPLE DP Tri-X OC Version (UEFI) PCI-E Graphics Card 11244-00-20G, considering its available on Amazon for 359$ and normally priced at 658$
I would say at least 8 gb of ram, and a video card with minimum 2gb on board memory. might wanna go for 4gb or 8 gb on board video card memory so it will run silky smooth.
I am gonna get his in the next few months http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZGL8CYY/?tag=bom_tomshardware-20&ascsubtag=[site|thaus[cat|[art|[pid|B00ZGL8CYY[tid|14352642395255067[bbc|LEPRIX
I get 7.2 stock and 7.4 overclocked, with my i5 4690k. The card is a Sapphire Nitro R9 390 8GB http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZGL8CYY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
Picked it up used for $240, great deal!
what power supply do you have? If you have a low-end 400 or 500w you may not get enough power.
Other than that your pc looks fine, although there may be some bottlenecking from your cpu, although I'm not too sure tbh.
Go for the sapphire nitro r9 390 or the MSI r9 390
Lol, the Sapphire 390 is the best out there. PCPartPicker actually only shows reviews made on their site, not reviews made on the seller's website. You get way more reviews from Newegg, Amazon than PCPP. Here are some reviews:

I'm a fan of white and blue, black and green, or black and red (in that order). I am also hoping to buy as many parts off Amazon as possible, and I was wondering about the difference between these two cards:
Nitro version (but not the latest?)
vs
As far as I can tell, the nitro version is one generation older than the non-nitro. Which one would you recommend? Thanks again for your help!
Try and pick up an ATX motherboard to go with that case. I would include a 16 gig kit to make sure your streaming software, game, and web browser always have enough memory to play around with, though.
I suggest this graphics card over the 970, but that's just my personal taste. The larger frame buffer is good to have and you can stream using OBSVCE with it.
As for your headphones, I direct you to The Holy Source of Knowledge and Enlightenment.
This R9 390 is on sale right now with 3 fans. Should I get this over the MSI?
I would swap out that motherboard for an H97 option if you're not going to be overclocking. Here's one that looks good from Gigabyte.
I like this graphics card a little bit more, but it's just, like, my opinion, man.
Message me about finding a Windows license.
Unless you use CD/DVDs every day, you won't need a disc drive. Yes, even to install Windows.
Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions on specific brand to buy? Or does it not really matter?
Do any of these look particularly good?
The computer actually does have a Corsair CPU cooler, I'm not sure which model exactly but it looks like this Hydro Series. If the GPU upgrade outpaces the CPU then I might try OC'ing a bit. I also want to see how Windows 10 does, what the feedback is on it, and then I might consider getting a SSD to install Win10.
I am seeking suggestions on a GPU upgrade. I posted in yesterday's thread pretty late in the day so I am posting here again in hopes of more replies. I apologize if I am spamming the same comment too much and will delete if a mod instructs me to do so.
I have a gaming PC which is a few years old now and I am hoping a simple GPU swap-out can extend its usefulness when playing some of the new AAA games. I have built a few PCs for myself in the past but this one was put together for me by a friend and I don't really want to replace the entire thing yet.
Here is what I have:
If you need any other info, let me know.
It looks like the GPU has two PCI-E power cables attached to it on the side. I would like to stick to air-cooled GPU cards, no fancy water-cooled models. The Corsair PSU looks to be only 650W so will that be a limiting factor? Not enough power for newer GPU cards?
Budget-wise I am willing to spend several hundred dollars, even up to $500 if it is a card that will max out the useful life of the PC as a gaming machine until I finally have to build a completely new one a few years down the road.
What spurred me into looking for a GPU upgrade is I recently bought Witcher 3 and even on Medium graphic settings I only get 32fps at best and usually 26fps. I don't really plan on upgrading the monitor so 1920x1080 will be my resolution for the foreseeable future. I would love to hit something like 60fps at 1920x1080 on High graphic settings.
I will most likely be purchasing from Amazon, got some GCs to burn plus I am a Prime subscriber. Some possibilities, do any of these look particularly good?
How come you didn't go for this one? Do you think it'd be worth the extra 30 or 40 dollars? http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-Version-Graphics-11244-00-20G/dp/B00ZGL8CYY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1436418240&sr=8-2&keywords=390
Sold. Not even kidding. This is the item I want.
This one is from - Amazon OC'd http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Radeon-Version-Graphics-11244-00-20G/dp/B00ZGL8CYY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1456803942&sr=8-10&keywords=r9+390
And apparently this is what I "ordered" as per looking at my order history from Microcenter, which is going for $379 but when I bought it they charged me $329 and with tax it was like $360 something, but when I click the link on my order history that was charged $329 it takes me to the overclocked $379 one, so generally I'm confused -- http://www.microcenter.com/product/454825/Radeon_NITRO_R9_390_8GB_Overclocked_Video_Card_w-_Backplate_-_Tri-X_Cooling
naw imma splurge and get this radeon r9 390 8gb http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZGL8CYY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_9&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
