4 months so far and these are the things I could think of for us so far.
Must haves 1. Activity center with dangling toys. 2. Lovey 3. This toy we use with our highchair (keeps him distracted after 2.5 months so I could eat hands free, life saver) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M1YKAT9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share 4. Changing table dresser, I had severe back pain after birth from my sciatica and for about 6 weeks was unable to easily bend over. We use this with every change and now we get most of our laughs on that changing table. 5. Rocking chair, we got it after a month and I thought it was worth it. 6. Lots of burp clothes, sooo much spit up. I like the water proof ones so they don't leak through onto your clothing. 7. Lots of bibs. Drool and spit up. 8. Swaddles and then sleep sacks for when they transition out of swaddles. 9. Bottles (couldn't breast feed). Lots of bottles 10. Carrier. Only way to get naps in in the beginning. 11. Swing 12. Hatch - use this as a nightlight and at every nap and all night long. Love it. Thought this was not necessary initially and then ended up buying it because YouTube would randomly turn off the white noise in the middle of the night and he would always wake up. 13. Gas drops. So much gas drops.
Did not need 1. Too many of one type of diaper. We stocked up from the registry and then really hated pampers. 2. They grow quickly so not as many newborn clothes 3. Bath soaps like others have said 4. Blankets. He got 7 gifted. Most home made so they are nice but we don't use them often. 5. Gloves / mittens - in the beginning you can get pajamas with built in gloves. Mittens never stayed on my newborns hands. 6. Baby tub. I can't even believe I think this because my hubby and I got in a fight pre baby about whether or not we needed a tub. I was adamant that we did. We ended up just laying him in the sink after a few weeks and haven't used our tub since. 7. Baby bum brush - was convinced from what i read online that this was a must have. My fingers work much better to apply diaper rash cream. 8. Shoes. They really are just for decoration 9. Baby towels. A normal towel would work and the ones I have for the baby are so thin that they soak through and get me wet. 10. For me a diaper bag. I ended up hating the diaper bag I had gotten and now I just throw everything into a purse before I leave. Makes me feel more like myself instead of lugging around a huge back pack.
