Im actually looking into OCR pens to help enter things straight into passportal (IT glue equivalent)
I'll still need to click on the field then scan, click on the next field ETC... but I think this might still help me.
*I have messed up hands so typing is very slow/inaccurate.

As you note, I typically use Kindle and save my highlights. what if he could highlight pages of the book manually and read it digitally with an OCR pen?
Such devices do scan a book but they're really pricey and quite bulky. it still requires some manual work too.
out of curiosity, have you thought about getting the book digitally on say a kindle or similar devices and converting them to pdf's for him?
you could even just go as far as getting a copy of a book for free as a pdf. i don't know how you and your grandfather feel about that.
