Self priming, built in pressure switch shutoff, functions closer to a centrifugal and not a true PD pump. Flow backs down as you throttle it. Which is fine for this application. Can generate a smaller warmer stream which might be nice for the waterfall.

If all you need is 300gph (which is about 5gpm), just get a sprayer pump. They have an integrated pressure switch that will activate the pump when the pressure drops, like when someone sprays water out of the hose. You can get ones that run off 12v or 120v, higher GPM or lower, whatever you need. Then just rig in a power cut off to the float switch that will cut power to the pump when the water drops below a certain level.
