I have a great idea! My sister went to art school. She was 10 years older than me at the time. So I was 8 - 10 yrs old? Wow! But she enjoyed spending time with me, and I liked art. So we would draw.
Pencils come in all different weights. So you can get them in a series of soft to hard and get her a few sharpeners. Then you can add some really basic colored pencils. If you feel like you haven't met your budget yet, then I have more ideas.

I got my wife the most basic weighted pencils and crayola colored pencils. She thought I was being silly until she started using them.
These are inexpensive but awesome gifts. You don't have to get the really expensive ones, get the basics. You can add some adult coloring books. Not adult like weird, just adult like very challenging.
Another idea is a really good art pad. The quality of the paper makes a world of difference.
