You will have a hard time beating the Weekender at that price. For a little bit more you could get a Seiko 5.
I have a Japanese version of this SNZG15J1. I love it. Very very impressive long lasting lume. I bought a non-Japanese version for a beater, but was unimpressed. I returned it and decided some wear and tear will give my Japanese some character.
It is this watch with a seperately bought leather strap. I wouldn't buy it for over $130 though.
I recently bought a Seiko 5 sport, I needed a simple everyday watch. It surpassed my expectations, the watch feels really solid for the price, the nylon strap is nice quality, it's an automatic movement (has a display back which is a plus) and best of all the Lume is a amazing! I was surprised of how long and how bright it is.
I am looking into buying the Seiko 5 SNZG15J1. Any thoughts? Is it quality, or am I wasting my money. I would be buying a leather band along with it to replace the nylon one.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of that particular Mako just because I don't like the look of the rubber strap, but if that's your jam, then I hear good things about Orient for the price point.
The Seiko 5 and Eco-Drive are both very solid, but one thing you may want to consider is going in to a boutique or store to see if you like the look on your wrist because both of them are 37mm cases which for me at least is a bit small.
I have a Seiko boutique near me, and I walked in just to take a look at the Seiko 5 because I liked the amount of watch that you get for the price, and I was very disappointed to see how small it was on my wrist. I am extremely average at 5'10", 170 lbs, and 7" wrist size and the 37mm Seiko 5 looked a tad effeminate on my wrist. Alternatively, there's a Seiko 5 Sport that is 42mm and a similar style/price point that might be worth looking into.
i have the seiko s5 made in japan. its great
all of those are fine watches. here are some other ones I'd look into.
Amazon links for details only, other places have these watches cheaper.
Seiko SNZG line. very solid automatic field watches.
Seiko SNK line - basically the r/android starter watch
I love the aesthitics of the SKA727
Orient Chicane, a Rolex explorer homage
you can probably find a Hamilton Khaki field hand-winder for a little over your budget. I've seen them as low as $120 on WUS and r/watchexchange
