Should I buy this Seiko SARB035?
I can afford it, but it would be a big step up from my current watches. My most expensive pieces are a pair of Seiko 5 SNK's. Watches in Canada are becoming ridiculously expensive and I'll be kicking myself if I wait and the SARBs end up costing $1000 bucks in the next few years.
You can currently pick up a Seiko SARB035 on Amazon for just under $400, this watch is beautiful i own one and i 100% recommend it. Although it has a 38mm case diameter so if he has very large wrists maybe consider something else.

Are you in the UK? You can snag a Sarb035 on Amazon for a mere $340 USD. I snagged mine this past week and absolutely love it. It has an understated beauty that's neutral enough to go with virtually anything. I can only assume the Sarb033 is the same.
My rule of thumb is go with the one that matches your wardrobe best. If you wear brighter colors like white or blue dress shirts, the Sarb035's white dial is a much nicer contrast. The Sarb033 for if your wardrobe is darker colors. Just my opinion.
This one? that looks a lot more faded cream than white to me.
To be frank, it looks like something my grandfather wore. Doesn't exactly have the clean aesthetic I was really going for.
The black however does look quite nice. But again, looks more like a dress watch than it does something closer to a bauhaus type design.
Thank you for the input. I do appreciate it. :)
I'm guessing because of this. Same price as Amazon at $400.
Looking to get my first automatic watch. Budget ~$500, want no fancy dials, no extra features. Narrowed down to these:
* Seiko SRPD37
* Seiko SARB035
* Orient Symphony III
Open to suggestions.
Saw that Amazon still has the SARB035 in stock: [link]
Is it fine to buy from Amazon or is there a risk that something might be wrong?
It’s currently on Amazon for just under $400 which isn’t a terrible price all things considered!
You can get it new for $340 right now on Amazon. It's a decent price looking at camel. The SARB033 also recently dropped from $425 to $357.
Not to be "that guy", but this is less than $10 below the brand new price on Amazon. Is it JDM or something? GLWS nonetheless!
You have some great timing, price on Amazon just dropped to $350. If you're gonna get one now's the time.
I don't know why, but when I see Tissot, I always feel like they are too pricey for what they are. I am guessing that is why I tend toward Japanese watchmakers over Swiss.
When I saw the Le Locle I thought of this Citizen NH8350, but that is way under your price range.
The Heritage Visodate, reminds me of a number of Seiko watches, but the SARB035, which is an amazing watch.
I have no real sense on chronographs.
I know it's a bit over budget but I can't help but recommend the Seiko Sarb035. It's a legendary watch and seems like it would be a great fit.
I've decided to purchase the Seiko SARB035. A few questions:
I see it's available on Ebay for $309, compared to $340 on Amazon. Amazon provides a 2 year warranty; the Ebay seller said that they provide a 1 year non-manufacturer's warranty. Long Island Watch has it for $379, also with a 2 year warranty. Is the difference of 1 year the reason that the Ebay one is cheaper, or there some slight difference in the model I'm not seeing?
Will this go cheaper than $340/$309, or it's just worth buying it now? Based on my research these prices are fine.
With a quality black leather band, can this watch be worn for basically any formal situation? My research says yes, but looking for confirmation.
If you're able to stretch the budget by $50-60, I highly recommend the Seiko SARB035. You should be able to pick up a good leather strap for less than $50.
Have you looked at the Seiko SARB035? You could easily swap out the bracelet for leather.
If you like that type of style, then I'd recommend the Orient Bambino. I've heard a lot of good things about it, and it's very popular among watch lovers. Honestly I'd steer clear of brands you've never heard of like Burei. Generally when you want a cheap watch under 3-400, you're best going with Seiko, Citizen, and Orient as they're tried and tested brands with a good reputation. Another great option at $300 is the Seiko SARB035 or SARB033 (white or black dial respectively). The SARB line is very well respected at that price range, you'd have a hard time doing better than that IMO.
Edit: Google SARB035 on leather to see how nice it looks.
Save a few more dollars and get a SARB035.
With a $500 limit, I know what watch I'd buy.
I think i will go for Seiko SARB035 :)
Is this a good price?
$400 is a sweet spot for Seiko. Several excellent pieces in that area to choose from.
I still can't decide between this and this.
In your case, though, as much as I love Orient (and am a sucker for a power reserve), I gotta go with the Cocktail Time.
In that price range, it would take one hell of a special watch for me to vote against the Cocktail Time (I've yet to run across it).
