Cheap seiko automatic... mine has been fairly accurate with in a min each week. And is not worth crying over if something happens to it. Especially with theft being the main concern.
Seiko Men's SNK803 Seiko 5 Automatic Watch
Fairly tough construction of the watch... I am not nice to mine and wear it daily and it's been going strong for years (give or take a few dings and scratches)
I recently bough this Seiko SNK803. This is my first watch purchase.
The manual states that the expected error on the automatic movement is a loss/gain of up to 20 seconds per month. However, after I started wearing this watch on a daily basis (I got it just a couple weeks ago), I've found it gains around 20 seconds every day, and over the course of a week will end up a few minutes ahead.
I'm planning on returning it for this reason. I'm very happy with the look of the watch, I like the 37mm case because I have small wrists, I like the beige dial, and I like pilot watches.
If I get the SNK803 again, can I expect it to be more accurate? Was mine just a fluke, or do many automatic movements in the <$100 price range have gain/loss issues?
I have a Seiko 5 Sport this one are there replacement saphire crystals available for this model. I know it ships with mineral glass, and I have managed to scuff mine quite badly.
Was looking in to the Seiko 5 series and they are similar in style with the Weekenders, which I quite like. However, they are mostly in black faces and I'm looking to get a white face as I already own a black face watch.
The only other similar one I found on Amazon at this price range is [link], though I'm not a fan of the strap colour, although that could be easily changed. Not too sure about an automatic watch though, as I've never owned one. Any thoughts?
Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic ( 18.2270.4069/01.C498 ), since it is basically a refresh of the Zenith I received from my grandfather. This way, I keep the original, and get the "new" one free. Can't wear my grandfather's one, but at least I'd keep it.
Rolex GMT Master I ref. 16700 with the pepsi bezel. Same one my dad has. I don't really like the new GMTs. I think the bezels are too big.
I'd be fine with either one of those.
EDIT: Well, decided I'd also include a low-budget, third option.
Why get a 50USD one when I can ask for a Phillippe Dufour? IDK, but I think I'd use this one more freely since I wouldn't mind scratching it or anything.

Thank you for your input! Yes I was indeed misguided... I really liked you suggestion of the Timex Fairfield, but I have the impression it'll a tad big with 41mm, but I really appreciated the idea of buy a separate band, it open the options quite a lot. I would like to, be within $200CAD overall:
- Clean design, possibly minimalist
- White/Clear face
- Ideally between 36 and 38mm
- Leather strap (I may purchase separate leather bands if needed)
I found this one which I also like:
How do I which bands will fit?
This is probably your best bet: SNK803 I have the blue version and you can really make it look quite good with a leather strap. Great quality watch for the price.
The seiko is a bit cheaper on Amazon
I had the black one and felt the 37mm was too small, even though my wrist are tiny at 6.5".
watch strap clasp
No disrespect, but you're suggesting OP mount a $75 watch on a $70 strap.
At about $90 each this will push the budget, but I would suggest [link]. There are plenty of reviews from both men and women so it would work with both their wrist sizes, I think. Plus it has features both of them might be interested in; clear case back to view the inner workings, mechanical movement for the geek factor, illuminated hands, date/day display, water resistance. This link has better photos:
Jomashop seems to have the green version in stock, 2 of these would come in just under budget. Green might not be as versatile as beige, though.
Hey it’s 74 now for the one you were looking for:

The cream dial does look nice. Even better in person! Ditto to the comment above. Amazon (where I got mine) currently has them for $91. [link]
Everything but the sapphire glass for under $100
What about this one (Seiko Automatic)? It's below my budget (which is never a bad thing) so I could possibly buy a second strap for it to dress up.
The other one that caught my eye was this Citizen automatic but I can't seem to find it in stock anywhere (UK-delivery)
Would this strap:
work with this watch?
Or should I stick with a light or dark brown leather strap?
Narrowed down my watch search to two: the snk803k2 and the snzg07j1.
I just can’t decide between the two. The strap doesn’t matter much because I’ll probably replace it with a nato, but i like both clock faces.
If you could tell me the pros and cons of each, that would be great!
What do you guys think of something like this Seiko?
Or just a weekender?
I have been trawling massdrop and recently came across this lovely looking piece to purchase as my first automatic, however I am concerned about the case size being too large for my wrists (6.4 inches), does anyone have any suggestions or experience in sizing watches? I do not like massive watches, but this piece honestly looks wonderful to me
The alternative is this, non water resistant version
Definitely. Look at Jomashop's page for the Seiko SNK803
> RETAIL: $185.00
> was $79.99
> $59.99 68% off!
That's totally bogus. No one pays $185 for this Seiko 5. No one pays $80 for it either. Even $60 is too much!
Now here's the Amazon page where it's currently $54.42.
Check out the Camel Camel Camel page for the SNK803 and you'll see the average price for this watch on Amazon is $55. The highest price it briefly hit was $77 in 2014.
I paid $34 for this watch on Amazon - the lowest price this has ever been on Amazon. Someone made a profit on that, so imagine the margins Joma is working on.
I wear a Seiko 5 with a band from Lakehouse Leathers. Looks pretty good to me. My only gripe is I wish he used a thinner width leather for the keeper loop.
I'm conflicted on which watch to buy. This or this.Been deciding for the past half hour lol cant pick the color i like
I'm a college senior and I'm looking to purchase my first watch. I've narrowed my choice to the Seiko 5 SN803 in Beige due to the white face which I've heard is the most versatile.
I'm looking for straps as I've heard the Seiko 5's straps aren't the best. How many straps should I own for a versatile watch wardrobe and in what material/color/pattern?
I know I want a leather one from Lake House Leathers, a black/grey James Bond NATO strap, and maybe a navy/white/red NATO strap similar to the Daniel Wellington.
I'm stuck on which leather color is most suited for the watch, but I've been leaning towards one of the lighter shades like tan and saddle, but what's the sub's opinion?

There's also the option to splurge on a bunch of versatile straps, but I don't think I would use most of them.
Collection of versatile NATO straps
I'm pretty amenable to a few looks, but I'm definitely looking more casual than not- the watch I saw that got me thinking was this.
I have a tan Seiko 5
Can you recommend me a strap color for that?
The Seiko SNK80*x* series is my recommendation, but I would suggest swapping the band. I have the 803 beige dial that I got from amazon but I also swapped the band for a hadley roma strap. I've seen this combo quite a lot on the sub and you can check out pics here.
Seiko 5 SNK803
The Seiko SNK series of watches are highly recommended around here. Here's a pic of my SNK803 on a golden brown Hirsch Liberty which I picked up a few days ago. The watch is $50 on Amazon and the strap is $40
There's also more complicated Pilot's watches like these Seikos or some of the many Citizen watches like the Nighthawk, Skyhawk and Navihawk models.
Also the Casio Edifice in white, or the Seagull 1963 would both be great choices from the buying guide too.
~$55 "Seiko 5"
~$40 Spyderco Tenacious - or anything from their Byrd line (e.g. Cara Cara 2).
~$5 Baby Cree

That SNK803 variation is stunningly gorgeous, that's probably the one I'll buy. Where did you get the strap? I found the SNK803 (that's the one right?) on Amazon, will buy it there and a strap somewhere else, not sure where though.
I think the Seiko 5 is the best option at that price point, but it doesn't meet the size or bracelet requirements... Maybe an Invicta Pro Diver? Invicta generally gets a bad rap around here and most of their designs are garish, but the Pro Diver isn't one of them. An Invicta 8928 was the watch that was my gateway drug to the world of watches, so maybe I'm a little biased.
