Get the Sennheiser HD58x instead of these if you're looking for gaming cans. It's well worth the 40$ more.
EDIT: As others mentioned, if you need one that comes with mic PC37X (120$) or Game Ones (120$ at amazon) are right up your alley.
I had these Game One's before going with the Sennheiser Jubilee 58x and Modmic 4 setup. The 58x is easy to drive, and sound amazing! I also had the Philips SHP9500, and it did not sound nearly as good as the 58x, but it's so much cheaper that it's well within your budget. If listening to music is important to you, then I believe the separate mic setup would be a much better fit. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Game One's.
These have a really good mic on them for a gaming headset, good sound unless you go audiophile.
Let me know if I'm wrong, but this is the amazon's product and it looks like the same.
Hi there,
Your guides and comments have been absolutely phenomenal in my quest to find a good headphones pair. First of all, thank you for all your free information!
I went through all your guides - 2021/2022 both the versions. HD599 is what I found to be the best fit after going through all of them(coupled a lot more reddit/youtube research)
I'll talk about this particular list you mentioned,
As I mentioned in the OP, the Drop.com options are completely out of question. Sennheiser Game One is not available. The next best choice in the current list seems to be the HD 599
Given these budget/availability constraints, do you think HD 599 SE + cheap Lavalier mic are a good option? I've updated OP to include links.
If not, what would you suggest? If I increase my budget to $150, is there anything better?
I have a Sennheiser "Game One" headset. Comfortable for hours, decent mic and unlike most gaming headsets Sennheiser actually know how to make good sounding headphones.
I think this is the current model:
Try and get something that he would have to talk on, they ain't taking anything back that has to do with his head. Maybe like this? Or a back massager attachment for his chair so he can sit longer. Buy seemingly miscellaneous upgrades to his desktop computer but really be secretly building something else like a dope ass Plex server. A postage printer would nice to have around and that is semi-legit. A crazy high end office printer/scanner. Those things can run a couple g's and you can buy a shit ton of toner and paper for it.
This is a hard one.
EPOS I Sennheiser GAME ONE Gaming Headset, Open Acoustic, Noise-canceling mic, Flip-To-Mute, XXL plush velvet ear pads, compatible with PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Smartphone - Black (506080) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_l7DWFbHVWB6ZB
These look pretty rad. They have always been on my short list.
Any chance you could save a bit more money and wait for a deal on Black Friday or Christmas?
For under 100$ you might find an okay headset, but to be honest you will probably have to replace it in a year or so.
You can get a heavily discounted amazing quality pair for $150-$200 around the holidays.
I played this game throughout the end of the 360 lifecycle and pretty much the entire Xbox one life cycle and went through about 6-7 pairs of cheap headphones till I finally bought a quality pair of gaming sennheisers and have had them a few years now and they are amazing.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_hfwUFbNHTJ1CQ
I have these and they’re amazing. They are actually a lot cheaper then when I bought them a while back too.
Yes, generally open back headphones give you that "surround sound" feeling naturally instead of faking it with software. If you're in a quiet environment, open back is better for competitive gameplay. But if you're trying to block out noise, closed is better.
You may want to look at this one below if you're willing to try open. Amazon has a good return policy so if you don't like it, return it:
These are a terrible pair of headphones. If you can, I would recommend spending the extra $35 for Sennheiser's "Game One" headphones that are also currently on sale on amazon for $140 instead of $200.
The Game Ones were just posted in BuildPcSales. Amazon has a great return policy so I’d grab these and compare them to whatever headset you choose. I think you’ll find they outperform a stand alone headset on console and aren’t too shabby on PC as well. They are usually $144.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lZPDCb732BDCN
I use an Sennheiser Game One headset and I love it. The sound quality is perfect for me and I can hear footsteps and the direction of enemies quite well. Looks like they're on sale for like 60% off! Amazon Link
Prices can vary but EPOS I Sennheiser GAME ONE Gaming Headset, Open Acoustic, Noise-canceling mic, Flip-To-Mute, XXL plush velvet ear pads, compatible with PC, Mac, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Smartphone - Black (506080) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8I9vFbV1W1YGN bonuses for me are “wired cable” detachable cables. So even if it got torn or messed up you can just get a new cord vs a whole new headset.
Try finding a good pair of open-back headphones. I can hear everything as if I have them off of my head. Most are a bit pricey but I’m sure you can find something used. One that I’ve seen good reviews about is the Sennheiser Game One. Personally, I have a pair of the HD 6XX, except it is headphones only. I have a separate microphone that I use.
The best part about open-backs is your ears won’t be sweaty after hours of gaming!
Hey, I'm looking for a pair of open-backs with a mic. Amazon recommends these. They're Sennheiser, which I understand to be a respected headphone manufacturer, but I'm wary of anything marketed as "gaming". You seem to know your shit so are these a good buy, and if not, what would you recommend at that price point?
Sennheiser Game ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_gMqeDbE3MR20W
they also have a closed ear version as well, I just prefer open ear! this is by far the best headset I've ever bought both in microphone quality and sound quality. my cable issue only arose due to my own destruction ;_;
If you absolutely need the gaming look and integrated mic then get these https://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-Acoustic-Gaming-Headset-Black/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=sennheiser&qid=1553608589&s=electronics&sr=1-5
But I still strongly suggest getting the hd598 or hd599's. and buying a cheap condensor mic the kind you see twitch streamers use. You can get great ones for 30 bucks and the audio interface is 30 bucks too or get an antlion modmic for 50 to make things easier.
I got the Sennheiser Game Ones as said in the post
Is the price inflated? I checked to compare headsets and they said the headset is usually $150. Should i get this one or the Game One
Sennheiser Game One. Sennheiser is about the only brand of headphones I'd buy that has a model targeted at a gamers because I trust Sennheiser to make a quality product. I don't exactly know what your budget is for "reasonably priced" but for the quality you get, they're definitely worth a look.
Surround sound would be nice and if I did spend $200 on a headset, I would want to get the most out of it.
I'm looking at these right now
and the reviews suggest getting a sound card.
I’d go with the Sennheiser GAME ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_J3wnAbESCKK4G They’re based of the hd598 but have a swivel mic with it, pair it up with a good sound card and you’ll have an even better experience
So the word on the street is that that is a great headset, but a lot of people don't like the "floating" headband design and they end up slapping a few rubber bands on there to keep it in place, as it'll move on your head if you turn your head quickly.
I use the Sennheiser Game One which is cheaper than what you're looking at, doesn't have the headband issue, and works fantasticly. I'd consider that one.
If you're looking at an XLR mic, are you looking to be a streamer?
I just bought Sennheiser Game one. After looking around for something good. I looked at a HE-400s as well, but while I'd get much much much better quality it'd be more than 2 the price, since I also have to buy something like a ModMic v4 since HE-400s doesnt come with a microphone.
now I haven't received my Game One yet, but a lot of people says that they are very comfy and great sound and have a very good microphone, for being on a headset.
I'd recommend that you at least look at some reviews of it :)
My brother uses the Sennheiser Game one on his xbox and he says its very good for both audio and mic quality. I recommended him the headset as i own the PC360 model Sennheiser and its almost the same exact headset. The game one comes with 2 cords to attach to a controller/phone (single combo 3.5mm jack) or the standard headphone+mic 3.5mm jack most pcs use.
It does go on sale and hits under $140. If you are using an astro id imagine you dont have a problem spending over $100 for a headset (astro is a scam imo. its like 'beats' or 'turtlebeach' headphones. they are overpriced garbage)
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC?th=1
Not sure what you mean by adjustable mic, but I'm going with the Sennheiser Game One soon. It was $130 a couple months ago, waiting to see if it hits that again for Black Friday.
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC?th=1&psc=1
Lightweight, fantastic headband, the best ear pads in all of headphonia IMO, a solid mic, and decent sonics.
I really, really like my Sennheiser Game One's. I got them at the suggestion of the guys at The Wirecutter and have absolutely no complaints. Great sound, great positioning when paired with the Razr surround headphone software, and the mic sounds great.
Ninja Edit: Though, the biggest downside is that they really only sound -great- if you have an audio card with a built-in amp, or get an external DAC/AMP.
Phillips sph9500 + vmoda boompro mic.
Or Sennheiser game one

Kingston HyperX Cloud (I am not a fan of closed back headsets)
Stay far away from Gaming headsets from gamestores and big box stores.
Stay away from Tritton. Like, forever.
If the A40 advertises Xbox on it, then it's likely the one that comes with the little device that plugs into the controller. That device won't work with a PS4, but you could always just plug the A40 right into the controller with the PS4. You might lose volume functions that aren't software-based, but I'm not sure.
For that price range, you should buy these instead. Better audio, better mic, and they work well with PS4. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469952073&sr=8-1&keywords=Sennheiser+Game+One
The vast majority of gaming headsets suck for music, but those Sennheisers would be an exception.
my blacksharks started making a weird zzt zzt noise a while back and ive been looking for a new headset for a while. I don't need a mic since i have a blue nessie. the reviews for this headset are sounding great.
thoughts?
Really depends on your budget and particulars.
I could give you a headset to buy at $40 and I could give you a pair of headphones to buy at like $600, need some sort of preferred range.
As far as particulars, I need open backed or close backed, if you need/want a removable cable, cloth or leather earpads, if it needs a microphone and how good of a microphone, whether you want USB or straight 3.5mm plugs, anything you can give me to help me narrow down my selection to fit you best.
My favorite general recommendation is the Sennheiser G4ME ONE. They're open backed, cloth pads, has a removable cable (but with a proprietary connector), plugs in via standard 3.5mm plugs, and has an absolutely fantastic microphone. They're more than comfortable, sound as good as a lot of mid-range hi-fi headphones, and have very simple controls with a volume dial on the right ear cup and a microphone that mutes when you flip it up out of the way. All that said, it's $150-200, so it doesn't come cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC
Almost Never buy from the products site it will almost always cost more.
Edit: the white model is even $150. The Game One is also pretty much the best headset on the market anyways.
if you:
Then check out the G4ME ONE, it's on sale right now, and is using the same drivers.
I just bought these, and I was wondering if I should buy a dac/amp for better sound quality. I have a Rampage V Extreme motherboard with SupremeFX 2014, and it has been fine for this Sennheiser headset I bought earlier this year. I saw that it is a large difference in the impedance, so I wondered if I should get something to go with them. Sorry, I am kind of new to this whole headphone quality audio stuff. Thank you for any input you can give me.
There is a really good deal on Amazon for sennheiser headphones. About 50% off for Black Friday. Also you can get a cheap audio plug to stick those bad boys into an Xbox one controller. Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_9s3uwbKJWNTEW
I just got the Sennheiser G4me ones, and they're fucking amazing, sennheiser quality headphones with a really good fucking mic.
Probably the best Mic+headphone combo you can buy.
The guy asks for a Headset and specifically mentions that he doesn't want the Headphone and mic combo, yet it is all people suggest. FacePalm.
I have Sennheiser G4me ONEs: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-G4ME-BLACK-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1437504942&sr=1-1&keywords=sennheiser+g4me+one&pebp=1437504941687&perid=1XXY367T8WKZ1RXEJ2ZH
Dont bother with the PC363D I almost bought them too, but really they are an older version of my headset except they come with a USB Soundcard. (Exact same as PC360 except with a soundcard and the PC360 are the older G4me One's
These things are amazingly comfy and they sound great they have the same Drivers as Sennheiser 558's which is what a lot of people suggest and the mic on them is amazing. They also recently came down on price so they are worth it for sure.
Edit: Also to be clear, the G4me One's > G4me Zeros, the Zeros are essentially the PC350
I ended up sending the ADG1 back to Amazon for a full refund (that was after sending it in for a replacement and ending up with all the same problems). Instead I bought the Sennheiser G4ME ONE headset from Amazon and couldn't be happier. It doesn't have as broad a sound stage as the ADG1 which has massive cans and really open mesh behind them, but it has a stellar microphone that has really good sound quality and rotates up to mute with no popping whatsoever. Additionally, the noise cancelation on the mic is fantastic (even with the open back design) and it has beefier bass than the ADG1s which is good for gaming and certain music depending on your tastes. In my opinion you can't beat the G4ME ONE in bang-for-the-buck. I like what Audio Technica was trying with the ADG1s but in the end it's really just a crummy gaming headset. I cannot comprehend how it gets so many good reviews with it's lack of features and poor design. The only thing I do miss is the positional audio. I was really able to pinpoint footsteps well with the ADG1s due to how broad the sound stage was.
The Sennheiser Game One's are currently $129.95 on amazon right now. While they aren't a bad headset at all, that's a significant price difference. The Retro's and pads are about $47 before taxes. Throw in a cheap clip on mic like this one and now it's just under $60 before taxes. Not everyone has 100+ bucks to spend on a headset.
The game ones are $160 on Amazon, I would adjust your price..Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_RpYUybF006GWD
Sennheiser GameOne headsets are nice, open back, and a super cushy velour pads. You can wear them all day with zero discomfort, By far the most comfortable gaming headsets I've worn.
I wouldn't pay full retail or even close for them though. I got them for 120 at Microcenter with a Amazon price match the prices fluctuate a lot it seems.
As for a monitor. Get the Acer XG270HU if you have an AMD Card. The monitor is 144Hz, 1440p, 27" and it has Freesync. You can probably find it for around 300 if you shop around, or wait for sales. 390 on Amazon ATM. The only drawback to it is it has no fucking VESA. The stand is nice though and minimal, there are DIY guides online to make it VESA.
Same prize on Amazon for the Black one
I spent the better part of yesterday weighing my options but settled on the sennheiser g4me one for $165:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK8ZLEC/
The g4me zero is also available for $120 but I decided against them since they are closed back and have leather which means sweaty ears but otherwise great value. Also worth considering as an even cheaper alternative is the sennheiser gsp 300s which are pretty much on par and going for $70 on amazon:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcpO_EwH6f4
The main reason I settled on the g4me one is because of the mic quality and it's backround noise cancellation, best demonstrated in this video IMO:
Yes. It has a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1070 Ti, and with that at its core good components. Even a proper model of the 1070 Ti.
The build is not completely optimal: It misses a HDD (250GB SSD as storage is not enough) and the ram is slow, which is especially bad for a Ryzen processor.
Sadly for the buyer, you can buy the PC for less (with fast ram):

It's not a scam, it is just that the gpu got a lot cheaper, and maybe they paid unnecessarily more for the SSD, psu and board.
Do the peripherals make up for it?
Total: 1059 + 129 + 55 + 40 + 60 = 1343
So if you really want the peripherals and the PC itself work fine and you are okay with not being the original warranty holder (which is not always a problem, depends on the company) then the deal is okayish. Maybe not having to actually build the PC is even a plus in your eyes.
I would get the PC components new, add a HDD, and buy cheaper peripherals. Apart from the gameboard (do you want that?) my suggestions:
Especially for the headset there could be different good options. Also the keyboard can be cheaper when not wanting a mechanical, even that Amazon basic keyboard is good enough to game on it for a few years.
First off, the issue I have with wireless, and many can probably agree, is that you sacrifice quality. If gaming is something you spend a lot of time doing and it's what you love to do, don't cheap out if you don't have to. Or if you have to save a bit more for a bit longer, do that too. Audio quality is lost in wireless. I don't care who says otherwise, you cannot convert and compress audio signal then send it through wireless then convert it back to play through the drivers in the headset, and not lose quality. The same goes with the microphone, converting and compressing, sending wireless to PC, then converting to audio. The speaker, and mic quality are reduced and it's personally something I cannot stand since I spend so much time gaming.
Now. If you go wired and want a headset, you pretty much have already one of the best ones you can buy for less than $100 IMHO. The Cloud and Cloud II are great headsets in that price range. If you can save a bit more, then the Sennheiser Game One will not disappoint and is on sale at Amazon for $168 USD (normally $250). Sennheiser will probably give you the best wired headset that money can buy. They aren't a gaming peripheral company, labeling something as gaming and using the same hardware as every other model they put out there, just to get more money out of it, they are a serious professional audio company that expanded into making a headset line for gamers. Their headsets are built with great quality, the audio and mic quality are amazing, and their customer service is literally 2nd to none.
If you still want to go wireless, the SteelSeries Arctic 7 for $150 USD is recently released and highly reviewed for as bout as good of quality as you can get from wireless. And comfortable too. They can be used wired or wireless.
If you want to go a standalone route which is always recommended. The Phillips SHP9500 are around $60 USD and then you can buy a Yeti Snowball for $50 USD. That combo will keep you around your budget mark, and give you the overall best quality for audio and mic.
Never fear, PriceKnight is here!

Id recommend saving just a bit more and get these https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC
Refurbished ones arent too ridiculous, but hope you live close by...
I like the Drop PC38X. Very compfortable, good mic, you can get a replaceable cable and earpads through EPOS if you ever need to. Should be around $200 CAD with shipping.
Game One's are similar and are currently $129 on amazon.
I love Sennheiser Game One.
If you don't need a mic go to drop and grab the best headphones in your budget. Headphones are almost always better than a gaming headset.
It's the Sennheiser Game One: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC
I cannot find an official Sennheiser link so they probably don't make them anymore. They are fairly old I would say...maybe 5 years?
I wouldn't recommend going with traditional "gaming" brands if you want good quality headphones. I'd either go with what /u/kindlyadjust said and get a modmic and attach it to a good pair of headphones. (check out /r/headphones and /r/HeadphoneAdvice)
Or, I would go with either one of Sennheiser's gaming headsets:
If you want open-back (generally better sound, but people around you can hear what you're listening to) get a Sennheiser GAME ONE.
If you want closed-back (generally not as great sound, but doesn't leak audio) get a Sennheiser GAME ZERO.
Deal link: Amazon
I bought these
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC for an extra 24 I think I might cop these thank you!!
If you don't care about wireless this headset is still one of the best you can buy. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=senheiser+game+one&qid=1604366928&sr=8-1
TL;DR: Use case: Home office primarily discord for dnd/gaming with friends, rarely will use for music/youtube. Main games I'm playing atm: Siege, Overwatch, WoW, various single player games. Wants: Open Back and wireless if there is a decent option. Lightweight, comfort, and keeping ears cool is priority. Unsure if bluetooth is a good option. Maybe something like the Senn RS 175-U but open backed. Likes: my Sennheiser Game Ones as they are light and comfortable, just looking to ditch the wire if I can as I have a standing desk and like to pace around my office while playing dnd.
Budget - Budget is flexible. I do like good value and I don't think my particular use case warrants much spending but curious to hear all options. Lets say $200ish +/- $100. If you have a recommendation outside of that range I'm still happy to hear it. I don't consider myself an audiophile but I'm not afraid to pay for quality. If a DAC is needed for a particular setup I'd still consider it.
Source - What are you plugging these into?My current Senn's are plugging into the 3.5mm on the volume dial of the Logitech Z533s. The Z533 is connected via 3.5mm to onboard sound on my Asus Rog Strix Z490-E Gaming.
Requirements for Isolation - Using in home office for primarily discord/dnd/gaming. I do prefer open back headphones as my ears get toasty and I tend to wear them for 4-6 hours at a time.
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No, home office only.
Preferred Type of Headphone? Full sized. Here is where my request get's unique. I don't think I'll find a great option for it but I am interested in a lightweight, open back, wireless headset (onboard mic or not doesn't matter to me, I use a Yeti for input). Open back is key as I like to be able to hear my wife talking to me etc and my ears get warm quick.
Preferred tonal balance: Balance is fine, occasionally listen to music/youtube but primarily discord/gaming. When I do listen to music I do like a good amount of bass, but music isn't my primary focus for these.
Past headphones:
Currently the Sennheiser Game Ones are my dailies. I don't use the onboard mic. They are very comfortable especially for extended periods of time and my ears stay pretty cool. I believe the sound quality is fine. Had an issue with the first pair that was replaced without question from Sennheiser. Their customer service responded extremely quickly and I have no qualms. Only mild complaint is I like to walk around my office (standing desk) while talking/playing dnd and having a wire (albeit very long) is just annoying. It's a first world problem.
I have a pair of Corsair Void Pro RGB and they sound okay but my ears just get really toasty in them after more than a couple hours. They are also a bit heavy but the battery life is dope. Currently my wife uses these.
I've got a few others that have specific use cases and for the most part they are fine but they don't work for this particular situation I'm looking to resolve. I've got a pair of Galaxy Buds+ that work great for music/podcasts while exercising etc. I've also got some Plantronic Backeat Pro 2s that were purchased in 2017 for air travel. Not overly impressed for the price but the noise cancelling was decent enough for a plane and I was on a budget. Was looking to replace them with a pair of the new Bose 700s for a bunch of planned travel in 2020 but obviously that didn't pan out. Wife and I both tried them and the store and was overly impressed with the sound and noise cancelling. Was ready to purchase 2 pairs in the Spring for travel.
Preferred Music - What do you listen to? When I do listen to music it's mainly EDM/Hip Hop but music isn't my focus for these.
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - What are you looking for going into your next headphone? Looking to see if there are any wireless options that are decent for my aforementioned use case. I think the only headphones that might meet this criteria would be specific gaming ones using wireless via dongle but I'm curious if there is a better alternative. Would consider purchasing a DAC but I don't think that'd apply in this situation. Wondering if there is something similar to the Sennheiser RS 175-U but open back.
Please let me know if you have any clarifying questions.
Sennheiser game ONE, i have a pair and love them. They do get warm in the summer but love them. They are currently on sale on amazon, little over your 100$ range but well worth it.

For the headset I went with a pair of Sennheiser Game ONEs (currently huge sale on Amazon)
As for the monitor, I went with this LG
I am looking for a new PC headset mostly for gaming but also some music. I would like a headset with a good sounding built-in mic and decent surround sound. It's just for basic use scenarios like gaming and Spotify. No super high fidelity music listening or editing and I don't have a DAC or AMP.
I would like a headset with good surround sound that makes it easy to differentiate directional audio such as enemy footsteps and gunfire in fps games.
I'm definitely not limiting myself to gaming-oriented headsets. Anything that covers my needs works for me. Thanks for any suggestions.
Edit:
Currently looking at the Sennheiser Game ONE or Sennheiser Game ZERO. Haven't done much research yet. If you guys have any notes on those I'd love to hear them. I would like some tips deciding on open/closed style headsets too.
That depends on how much your willing to spend and if you want a headset or headphones. I will say if you are willing to spend up for something like a $200+ pair, you generally want to pair that up with a soundcard for your PC unless your mobo is fairly high end and has a solid audio chip already preinstalled on the board. Otherwise if you dont really want to spend for both a higher end pair and a sound card and deal with setting up your audio profile, getting a cheaper pair in the 70-160$ range is probably a better option for you. Also depends on if you want wireless or not. I personally prefer wired because I dislike my headset dying in the middle of a game since that can get me killed in a pvp match plus they are cheaper, but if you want to reduce some of the "bulk" you mentioned then maybe wireless is a better option for you.
Personally I use Sennheiser Game One Series: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC I didnt want to spend a ton on a headset, but I wanted something at least somewhat high end for gaming with good sound clarity to pick up footsteps and such in shooters. Its mic is high quality for headset standards. Also this is the most comfortable headset I have ever worn. I have owned 2 of these total, and the first one was covered by my 4 year warranty half way through the 3rd year. The current ones Im using have lasted for over 4 years at this point, probably past 5? Hard to remember exactly. So durability is solid. I still have my old pair as well, the issue they had was the mic stopped working but they serve as nice backup headphones now.
I have heard some solid things from others about the Sennheiser PC37X: https://www.amazon.com/Massdrop-Sennheiser-PC37X-Gaming-Headset/dp/B084GFGMYT Also not a super high end headset, but you get a lot of bang for your buck with it. This headset is actually based on the game one series design, but simply cheaper. It came out later otherwise I probably would have gotten these instead.
If you do want to go for a higher end pair or a wireless pair I wouldn't say I have a ton of experience in that area. You might want to look up some reviewers if thats the case. I do know that generally speaking Bose are considered to have some of the best sound quality headphones can get by many reviewers, but Sennheiser does generally come in second while being more affordable. Plus if you are looking for an open ear (or open back, you see both terms used for the same thing) or to get a headset instead of just a pair of headphones then Sennheiser is probably the best. Bose tend to be closed ear headphones specifically. Sennheiser has a good mix of everything. And if your looking for comfort always get over the ear cups. These are the ones that fully go around your ears so no pinching happens around your ears causing ear pain. Otherwise pay attention to reviews and see what people say about the pressure it places on your head. A really tight pair of headphones can become uncomfortable after awhile.
Sennheiser Game One for open back headphones.
Or
Sennheiser Game Zero for closed back headphones.
I've used many headphones from Turtle Beach, Astro, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, Plantronics, Sony, and others. The Sennheiser Game Zero has been my favorite Bang-for-the-Buck gaming headset for the past 2.5 years. It is not wireless, but it works with PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Good luck with your headset research!
Always check the prices. The savings can be Knight and day.

If anyone is interested in the Game One Amazon has it for $107. Massdrop/Drop also has a collar version that is essentially the same headset but in all black for $100 + s/h. I can always give a referral if needed for $10 off.
These prices aren't just Black and White.

Sennheiser Game Ones, they are on Amazon for $130.16 right now, and there is a lot of value there. I own them and they have great sound for the price, they are comfortable , and have a good sounding mic. Here is a link: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Game-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+game+one&qid=1569683589&s=gateway&sr=8-3
Best you could do is probably get some open back headphones. If the volume is too high though you still might not be able to hear it. Google "open back gaming headset". Or you could get open back headphones and then add a mic attachment.
Open back headphones allow noise to come through whereas closed back will block outside noise.
Here's an example.
Whats the difference between those you linked and these ones? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC Just the 7.1?
The 7.1 is optional and can be turned off. The PC373D, Game One, and PC360 are all open-back designs with drivers equivalent to the HD558 headphones.
Currently on Amazon US, the Game One is $10 cheaper than the other two. Here are a few quick search links I found:
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-373D-Surround-Headset-x/dp/B01IBORI2O
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-360-Special-Gaming-Headset/dp/B01LDTRJG4
The only real difference between any of these other than price is aesthetics, and maybe the two newer ones (373/Game One) will also have the 7.1 sound option (I never paid attention since it's a useless feature).
Good luck!

Sennheiser 506080 GAME ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DFEuBb161NDAE
What do ya think about these?
Sennheiser. Game One or Game Zero .. you won't believe it because most people don't.. but I would actually pay full retail for these if I didn't use Beyerdynamic DT990s. $168 is well worth it. Build quality, long session comfort, audio quality, mic quality, and the level customer service, ALL, outweigh that of it's competitors.
I use the Sennheiser Game One and have nothing but good things to say about it. Get the Game Zero if having closed backs is important to you.
I'm a bit serious about audio, my headphones setup is like $1600. These cost a bit more than $80 but worth the upgrade.
The difference between these two are one is open meaning vents to improve sound quality and closed incase you can't allow much sound to escape from open headphones. they say gaming but that's just the style, they put good sound drivers in these.

Buy quality, buy Sennheiser. They last for forever and the quality great.
I've seen these two headsets recommended as the best out there: Sennheiser GAME ONE
and Sennheiser PC 373D - 7.1 Surround Sound
Would you be able to tell me the differences between these two headsets?
I dig into some benchmarks for headsets 'Gaming' (microphone incorporated) I have a budget of 150€-170€
I'm between: https://www2.razerzone.com/es-es/gaming-audio/razer-blackshark
and
My biggest concert is that the Razer ones is a model from 2012 but very recommended and i'm really happy with all my Razer hardware. Also the Sennheiser have better specifications and excel in the music studio, I've read that they can't use 7.1 on games...
I'm between my fidelity to Sennheiser and Razer. If anyone have a better suggestion i'm open =D .
Thanks you.
I'm a huge fan of the Sennheiser Game One. I've had mine for a couple years. The build is plastic, but it's very thick and durable. These headphones are very comfortable, I'd say 9/10 in comfort. They are based on the Sennheiser HD 558 headphones so you can expect the same audio quality, you're paying $40.00 for a volume knob and a built in mic that mutes when you push it up - these features are worth it for me. If you're looking for a closed back headphone, there's also the Game Zero.
Best headset I've ever used. Mic is great as well. Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IVvayb8H6548P
I'd recommend Sennheiser personally (Going to need the stereo adaptor for older controllers without the 3.5mm jack for these headsets)
Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hzBeyb3R9QZZQ
These are open-acoustic so you can hear what's happening around you (cell phone ringing, knock on the door.. Maybe.., etc.)
Black ONE: $155+tax White ONE: $165+tax
Sennheiser GAME ZERO PC Gaming Headset - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GWU8FAE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_iDBeyb01EDXEN
The ZERO version is not open acoustic so you won't hear much of what's outside the headset.
The prices for this is a bit wacky just for a color.. White ZERO: $168+tax Black ZERO: $200+tax
I've had the ONE for little over a year now and I love it. The earcups are velvety and really comfortable even with hours of play. Mic quality is pretty clear too. It can get decently loud aswell, but I usually don't turn it up all the way; I'll put it at 3/4 volume + surround sound.
Keep in mind that these are a few years old so I'd seek out opinions and compare more.
I don't have these but I heard there great for the price and has an amazing mic and sound Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Lwb1xbA8NWATV
Anyone have the Sennheisers Game One? Looks comfy and $130 seems reasonable.

I just received Sennheiser GAME ONE PC Gaming Headset today from Amazon (link to the page). And I can't get the mic to work, it keeps defaulting to the mic built-in on my laptop (an Asus ROG GL551JW-DS71).
The headset speakers work but I can't get the mic to work. Here is an image of how I plugged it in, I have an adapter because my laptop only has a single jack to act as both mic and speaker https://i.imgur.com/pDDUWSg.jpg?1.
And here is a picture of my attempts at following other forum questions in going through control panel > sound > recording devices https://i.imgur.com/O9JOF9Y.png.
/u/ibeinspire said here that "the realtek mic is the headset's mic" but then how would i go about making my headset mic the deafult?
Moving to Israel in September. I do care about keeping up appearances. Ideally I would like the gear to compliment my daily attire. If not, I can work around it.
I would appreciate any advice and recommendations. I was already advised on a few and I'm leaning towards the Audio-Technica ATH-R70x, but somehow find the Sennheiser HD 600 alluring.
I can't recommend the Sennheiser G4ME One's enough. Best headset I have. Mic is really really good as well. Also extremely comfortable, at least to me. They are open so they offer a great sound stage to pin point footsteps better than any of my other headsets.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC
If you want wireless for PC or PS4 get the Logitech G933. They sound FANTASTIC, really they do, in my opinion. Almost as good as the G4ME Ones. And they are jam packed with tons of features. And it can go wired as well. And it can take phone calls and it can mix in audio from like 3 sources and any 3.5mm you plug into the wireless dongle will also get transmitted.
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Spectrum-Wireless-Surround-981-000585/dp/B0148NPJ78
You can't go wrong with these: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=twister_B00OZP5HG8
They sound great! Better than any of my previous headsets by a lot. Would recommend them as the best option.
They are open back to get a nice sound stage for pin pointing footsteps in FPS games and they have slightly boosted bass but it isn't overpowering it just feels nice.
But if you want insane bass then you probably will not like these.
A second option would be: http://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCVTQ
These are closed and sound very good. Almost as good as the G4ME Ones but for quite a bit cheaper. Bass is still good but not overpowering.
Third option would be: http://www.amazon.com/ASTRO-Gaming-A40-TR-PC-Headset/dp/B014LH5LH4?ie=UTF8&keywords=astro%20a40&qid=1465469606&ref_=sr_1_1&s=pc&sr=1-1
A lot of people say these sound terrible, but in my experience they sound quite good. I would say the problem most people have is the bass is extremely boosted and has the punchiest bass out of all the headsets I own.
Good luck on getting a nice headset!
I have a mic and it works fine. Here is what I bought to use:

Game ones are open back headset (preferable).. Game zeros are closed
Sennheiser G4ME One + ASUS Xonar DGX sound card.
I've never had a more fantastic setup than I have with these two together.
Mic comes through both left and right for me, and game sounds too. I recommend these:
and an adaptor like this:
i'am no headphones enthusiast at all but for a gaming headset these are what i would recommend:
Sennheiser PC37X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spktoWVAlTU
Logitech G PRO X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8nBLX9rDWI&t=215s

or you could buy the 58x jubilee and install a modmic on it, and get a better sound quality from more on the professional side headphones and a much better mic quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZtGFdurGmU

and here is a similar headset to the Senhheiser PC37X : https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+game+one&qid=1562796435&s=gateway&sr=8-3
$20 over but Sennheiser makes really good headphones. game one. i have the HD 598 cs's and they are godlike.
Pretty much any Sennheiser headset.

First, check out /r/headphones.
Second, avoid most gaming companies as their audio often sounds like crap.
Go with Sennheiser. They're an audio company, not a gaming company so their products sound much better. Check prices on Amazon: Sennheiser as they're much cheaper there compared to the Sennheiser website. The Sennheiser PC 360 Special Edition or GSP 300 should suit your budget. If you want to spend a little more, go for the GAME ONE or GAME ZERO. If you want to save even more money, look for them on eBay.
Another good brand to check out is Audio Technica.
I hope this helps.
Sennheiser GAME ONE Black $130 - back ordered 2-4 weeks
Sennheiser GAME ONE White $150
Kingston HyperX Cloud II - $98
Kingston HyperX Revolver - $108
Of those I'm partial to the Sennheiser GAME ONE's, and the Astro A40. I've used exclusively Sennheiser headphones for the last 7 years and have loved them. The GAME ONE's are open back though so you will get a little less bass but a more open sounding sound stage. The Sennheisers are also far better for music than anything from Kingston, Razer, Logitech, or SteelSeries. Also in my experience, Sennheiser headphones are always quite comfortable. The mic quality is also very good on the GAME ONE.
The Astro A40's are just really good all around. Good sound quality, good mic quality, good overall build quality. Very solid option around the $150 range.
If it were me buying it, I would go with the Sennheiser GAME ONE, my second choice would definitely be the Astro A40's though. The SteelSeries Siberia 350 hasn't been getting the best reviews from actual users. I don't put as much stock into professional reviews because they never account for longevity of the device and are based more on technical specs than actual real world use.
It really depends on what your priorities are though. If you're concerned more with the sound quality, the Sennheisers or Astro A40's are the way to go. If you're more interested in extra features, some of the other brands like Corsair, Logitech, and SteelSeries will have some other features (like RGB lighting for example).
These are the one's I'm currently using. Overear, comfortable, replaceable cable, adjustable mic, solid audio, and relatively cheap.

PS Love PriceZombie :)
>I know that I want a headset with 7.1 Dolby (Or whatever it's called), and I would prefer if it's wireless, but I can settle for a wired one.
Guess what I know? That you don't want that. There is no good implementation of 7.1 for headphones and most likely there never will be. There are two ways to do 7.1 in headphones and they both suck:
Personally, I only have personal experience with 2 implementations of virtual surround: Razer Surround and the 7.1 on a HyperX Cloud. I did not like either of these, as I felt that both of them muddied the actual sound of the game, making it more difficult to pinpoint other important details, such as differences in distance and the Z-axis (above or below you).
Now, if you want an actual headset, in the sub-250$ pricerange your best options is probably Sennheiser G4ME ONE. Other than that, you can always just get a good headphone and stick a 50$ ModMic on it. If the latter is what you end up doing, there are better places than PCMR to ask for advice.
Anything that says Sennheiser is going to be great, but you can do better on price. The PC360 and PC363 are a bit old. Here is Sennheiser's newest line, the G4ME One/Zero: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-G4ME-BLACK-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1430850715&sr=8-6&keywords=PC363
Saves you enough that you can spend the leftover amount on an amp or sound card.
