I really like the Sennheiser GSP 300 series. Don't see them recommend as often for whatever reason, but it's $99 for the black or blue versions, and $90 for the white version.
I have this Sennheiser one. It’s by far the comfiest headset I’ve ever had. I’ve had so many problems with headsets that end up hurting my ears after around half hour of wearing them. I’ve been through 6-7 headsets in the past 2 years just trying to find one comfy enough. I’ve had this thing on for over 4 hours many times and it doesn’t hurt one bit.
Sound is good, comfort is excellent and mic is fine. (I’m not keen on the mute function tbh, you lift the arm of the mic up to mute it but it doesn’t always work, so just wanted to be honest and mention that). But even with the inconsistency of the mute I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a headset that is very comfy to wear for extended periods of time.
It's the same model as the GSP 300/301/303. The number designates the different color.

is that the headset you were referring to? This doesn't look the best necessarily but it fits the black and blue theme, its 20 bucks cheaper than the other headsets i asked about, and if it has good sound quality...
I can only go by Amazon reviews, but the comfort doesn't seem that great on them.
This headset is similar in price to the Arctic 3 and seems much better.
I would either go for these or the Arctis 3, to be honest. But I'm no expert, so feel free to ignore me!
as someone who has used a silly amount of headsets over the years, i would recommend these, they have a usb version too https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-Closed-Acoustic-Gaming-Headset/dp/B01KV3BB0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492625938&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+gsp+300
Hello i am looking for a gaming headset right now I have Astro A40's and a friend recommended these https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GSP-Gaming-Headset-507079/dp/B01KV3BB0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479598761&sr=8-1&keywords=Sennheiser+GSP+300 any advice?
Third party on Amazon with 96% positive reviews. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GSP-Gaming-Headset-507079/dp/B01KV3BB0S/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1496534811&sr=8-8&keywords=sennheiser
I’ll throw in my own suggestion if you’re wanting to strictly stick with a headset. Take a look at these from Sennheiser https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KV3BB0S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IiofFbQE1R5N7
GSP 600 is noise isolating, not cancelling. Essentially like cupping your ears with your hands. It can be upgraded with an amp/dac but TBH it's not going to make noticeable difference. These headphones aren't meant for their musicality.
The GSP 550 is self sufficient yes.
If you're wanting sound quality but the use of a mic then others suggest going with a mod mic type set up which attached onto the headphone.
I personally don't use that setup. I just have a mic on my desk and use my HD800S. It's all preference.
For better sound quality higher end gaming headsets aren't going to benefit you.
For me I have these because I realize it's not worth the money to me to go much higher.

Yes, the mic is detachable. This review has a bunch of shots showing it.
That review also mentions two other headphones they apparently preferred which I haven't tried myself but which are currently at lower prices than what that review mentioned: PC37X for $99, GSP 300 for $57. Both have non-detachable mics though.

Sennheiser GSP 300 series is on sale for $99
I haven't actually tried these but I would pretty confidently say there's better deals.
For one I tend to avoid things with misleading marketing - there is no such thing as a "7.1" headset since that means front/center/left channel, subwoofer, and side and rear speakers. Also peripheral companies like Razer and Logitech tend to not have the best quality audio components, with a lot of them being pretty bad.
This one is a little more but it's made by Sennheiser who are probably the most respected headphone brand.
I also like JBL's stuff:
Overall gaming headsets aren't usually a great value. If you're willing to get a separate microphone like a modmic or similar or like a $10 lavalier mic you can get any headphones you want which opens up a lot more options. A lavalier mic with Koss Portapros, AT M20x's, or Superlux HD668B would be great.
Highly recommend these, been using mine for about 3 years now, sound quality is decent, mic is really good and (in my opinion) great noise cancelling.
they're 71 + tax on amazon rn in the US

I don’t think amazon is currently delivering non-essential items until April 5th. The deadline may be extended.
Always check the prices. The savings can be Knight and day.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KV3BB0S/?tag=pcpapi-20 GSP 300 is a very good set with a great microphone.
Otherwise the HyperX Cloud, Cloud II, or Cloud core are good.
Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X - Open-back Headphones with great mic. Sound wise, very open. Spatial awareness is great. I have a similar version (HD598SR) without the mic and I love gaming on it. But the price is a bit more than $100.
Sennheiser GSP 300 - A more budget version but closed ear cup. Very good noise isolation. You can check out HardwareCanucks review here. Currently on sale at $80~
I used to have Hyper X Cloud many years ago. The cable spoilt after heavy use.
Hyper X Cloud was comfortable, good noise isolation. Not much soundstage compared to open-back. I have tested my friend's Cloud IIs with the USB dongle and 7.1 surround sounds tinny and fake. I rather not use it. I would choose Hyper X Cloud II if both Sennheiser headsets above isn't your liking. The plus point is, mic is removable and cable is only 1.2m with an extension thus you can remove the mic and use it as on-the-go headsets.
I personally have 3 headphones I listen to at present. ATH-M50x, HD598SR, and HD6XX.
ATH-M50X is my 3rd favorite... very similar to M40X but more bass. Sound Quality wise, very clear in the highs, very punchy bass. A great all-rounder but soundstage isn't that great compared to HD598s. Still can pinpoint sound sources accurately in games though. Since sound isolation is so good, I use it for travel more than gaming. If you want to use both for listening to music on the go and to game in a noisy environment, ATH-M40X is for you.
<strong>Sennheiser HD598SR</strong> - Similar to PC37X but no mic. Just awesome spatial awareness due to open-back and soundstage being very wide. When gaming, I could hear sound from every direction. Sound quality wise, not as clear as ATH-M50X(however still very clear) but the sound signature is warm and the bass is tight. The headphone is very light and comfortable. Since it is open-back, the ear stays cool. Can't bring outside though, its open back so you'll hear everything. Zero noise isolation. If you just want to listen music and game in a quiet room, perfect headphone.
Sennheiser HD6XX, It's in another league altogether. Does reflect the price point. Much larger soundstage and much clearer. Needs an amp/dac to drive it. Currently my most favorite pair for gaming. The downside is, it's heavier and not as comfortable as HD598SR. But it's not relevant to you at the moment.
I think you should get the 1070. As for headphones I would recommend getting either the HyperX Cloud 2 (I have these headphones and love them), the Sennheiser GSP 300, the Sennheiser GAME ZERO or Sennheiser GAME ONE (the game zero is closed back and the game one is open back).
I was looking at: https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GSP-Gaming-Headset-507079/dp/B01KV3BB0S What's your opinion.
How tight is the $70? The Sennheiser GSP 300 might be worth looking into for $96. Otherwise, a HyperX Cloud is probably your best bet like others are saying.
This is quite a long post but you probably should read it all. I also searched for the best possible sound on the PS4 for the cheapest price and tried almost everything.
Astro Headsets are NOT top notch. They are just OK. They have extremely elevated bass that drowns out the footsteps and clarity.
Razer again are completely overpriced and sound worse than 30 dollar headsets.
Sony Gold Wireless is decent and wireless which is also nice. But they sound a little bit muddy compared to the HyperX Cloud II. But sound better than the Astro's.
I have every headset listed except the Razer Kraken 7.1 but I do have the Razer Megalodon which was absolutely horrible and I had so many issues with it and the firmware updates fixed nothing and the sound from the headphones transmitted over the mic even when isolated so it was a wiring issue. I just would shy away from Razer at this point. I hear too many bad things about them all the time with build quality issues. Although I do think they look really cool.
For PS4 in my experience all USB sound cards sound terrible. I have tried the Syba, the Sony Silver USB Adapter, and the Logitech G430 USB sound card.
If you don't want to think about anything, buy these.

This right here will probably be the best setup available for the cheapest price. The HyperX Cloud II could be substituted for the GSP 300 but HyperX Cloud II's do sound slightly less clear than Sennheiser. These GSP 300's look like a refresh of the PC 350 SE but with reduced ohms but I currently do not have the GSP 300 so can't tell you if it sounds different than the PC 350 SE but if it sounds like it, it will be great for gaming in every way.
Here are further explanations for why you should get those two.
The new MixAmp Pro TR has horrible metallic surround sound.
Example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtNF1i2eSwg
It really does sound horrible so I returned it and got the MixAmp Pro 2013 edition from eBay and can tell you that it sounds absolutely fantastic. And much better than any of the USB stuff. Because of the Digital Optical connection. It is very important that if you go this route that you set up the MixAmp Pro 2013 correctly. You have to make sure that in the PS4 settings that the output to headphones setting is set to CHAT ONLY or you will not get the surround sound features through optical. You will get the standard stereo USB sound card of the MixAmp Pro 2013 instead of the optical which sounds much better than the other options.
The MixAmp also really is an amp. It pushes my PC 350 SE 150 ohms perfectly. The other USB adapters do NOT amp and I can not get my PC 350 SE's loud enough through controller or any USB adapter. So the MixAmp pro does definitely amp. But I should mention any headset above 150 ohms or lower sensitivity would probably not work with the MixAmp that well or it would be really low volume.
Also Sennheiser is extremely well respected for their sound and I own the PC 350 SE (And the G4ME One) and can tell you that it has the best sound of any gaming headset out there except maybe the ATH-ADG1X but those are 300 dollars.
Also, I can confirm that the USB adapter that comes with the HyperX Cloud II does not support surround sound on PS4. No USB devices support surround sound on PS4 unless you buy it straight from Sony. The Sony Golds and Sony Silver USB adapter are the only two devices that support USB surround sound that I know of. And it is not that great compared to what the MixAmp Pro 2013 offers.
Now for the part where I will tell you that if you want the audiophile solution, read further.
Most gaming headsets really do suck compared to a pair of audiophile headphones and an add on mic.
So in this area I will recommend this solution.
For audiophile experience you are going to want to get these SHP 9500's: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826138190 And this add on mic (Uni Directional with Mute): https://www.amazon.com/Antlion-Audio-ModMic-Attachable-Microphone/dp/B00R98JVVU?th=1
I don't recommend that V-Moda BoomPro even though it works perfectly with the SHP 9500's. It picks up everything in the room and since PS4 does not offer a push to talk feature I would stay away from it. It would be perfect for PC gaming though with a Push-to-Talk button.
If you get this with the MixAmp you are going to have the absolute best sound quality with the best mic quality for that price. No doubts whatsoever.
If money is really not an issue. I recommend the Sennheiser HD 598's with the ModMic and the SoundBlaster X7 with the Bluetooth USB adapter for chat. It does not work with Xbox One for chat only optical.
And if money is not an issue AT ALL then I recommend the Sennheiser HD 600 with the ModMic and the SoundBlaster X7 and the MixAmp Pro 2013 so you can put that into the X7 and use the line in and it's audio mixing capabilities so you can switch between SBX and Dolby Headphone with the MixAmp and choose the one you like the best.
I hope this helps you make a decision. I own most of the stuff mentioned and this is all from personal experience. But you should also note that sound is highly subjective so you may just have to purchase this stuff from Amazon so you can test all of it and send it back if it doesn't meet your needs or expectations.
