I used to have the Sennheiser PC 350 150ohm, which was pretty bass-anemic. I'm not sure if that applies to these newer 50ohm closed back headsets. However the build quality and microphone can't really be beat at this price. The Drop 37x is probably the better all around headset when on sale for around this price, though.
(Repost because violated Rule 1 yesterday! Sorry!)
So right now I have my Sennheiser PC 350 connected to my PC, just using onboard sound. I also have my PC connected to my Denon AVR-X2000 through my videocard (GeForce GTX 560Ti), via HDMI.
My question is, should I connect the headphones to my receiver, or would getting a amp help with sound? I mostly game when I have my headphones in.
Can someone point me to some good amps? I've never really fully understood what to look for when getting an amplifier.
Thanks!
This is a strange, but related question:
I need better headphones for gaming. I settled on getting these after basically taking a straight recommendation from a friend

The problem is that the reviews suggest that I need a sound card with amplifier in order for them to work? I'm not sure I understand. I am of reasonable technical skill, but I'm not sure I'm understanding what I need exactly. Particularly this review and the comments on it are somewhat troubling. They've essentially left me thinking that I need to get a new sound card (currently using onboard sound on an ASUS P6X58D Premium) but I'm not sure exactly what specification the new card would require. I'm just leaving this here as a means of passively collecting research if anyone else understands this topic better. I'll be a few tabs to the right in my browser doing more research on my own, so don't hassle me with the "LOOK IT UP, RETARD" if you don't mind. I'm trying.
Anyway, I appreciate it.
I've been enjoying your casts lately, also, TB. You help to fill my Saturdays in particular. I enjoy having a nice ladder on one monitor while I watch some tournaments on the other. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to hear how some crazy baller casting equipment helps things sound :)
Astro Mixamp + Sennheiser PC 350
Dolby Headphone is amazing!
this is the better headset for gaming. Used many headsets for Ventrilo and the Sennheiser was by FAR the best.
These are PC350 SE/Special Edition. A bit different than the normal PC 350's.
