Its Oscar season everyone!! So the plan for February is to watch each film that has been nominated for Best Director that was directed by a woman. We will end with The Hurt Locker, which won the award in 2009. So, first up is:

Seven Beauties(wiki) (1975) - Directed by Lina Wertmüller, starring Giancarlo Giannini, Fernando Rey, Shirley Stoler.

> Nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Director, Seven Beauties stars Giancarlo Giannini (Swept Away) as Pasqualino Frafuso, known in Naples, Italy as "Pasqualino Seven Beauties". A petty thief who lives off of the profits of his seven sisters while claiming to protect their honor at any cost, Pasqualino kills the pimp who made his sister a prostitute, chops up his body and mails the pieces to different locations across the country. He is then arrested and later sent to fight in the army after committing sexual assault. The Germans capture him and he gets sent to a concentration camp where he plots to make his escape by attempting to seduce a German officer.

Also if anyone speaks Italian and wants to translate an interview or two for me (under 10 minutes it looks like) I would super duper appreciate it. Wermuller seems like an amazing woman who is still working and still doing public speaking events. However, youtube translate is horrible. If you want a fun time, youtube her, then try to turn on auto-translate subtitles. Its amazing.
