I used to be in the market for this and tried out a bunch of different products. Ultimately, they all really didn't work out at all since there's a lot of compromises. Even if you got a lap board that was stable enough, you'd still be compensating a little bit with the mouse since it's not perfectly flat.
What I did was I took a step back and actually thought of what I needed for this PC couch gaming problem. All you really need is a desk that has legs that can slide under your couch and a stable platform to put a M+KB on. A desk that has legs that can go under your couch is key, since you can put it as close to you as possible so you can slouch in the couch or sit upright and game, whatever your preference is.
I got this from Amazon for under $50. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0097GMHXG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Add ANY KB+M + mousepad and you're set. There's probably other similar desks/TV tray that would work better as well, but the same principle applies.
I use the razer turret and for more serious sessions I use this mobile laptop desk https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-WEB162-Mobile-Laptop/dp/B0097GMHXG/ref=lp_490625011_1_4?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1468464778&sr=1-4
Use a wireless gaming mouse with a 10 keyless keyboard and I can fit my mouse and keyboard right on the table. Height adjustable and can slide the feet under the couch so the keyboard and mouse are right over your lap.
I play kerbal and some other KBM games fine on my couch. I use a laptop pad to put the mouse on and the keyboard just sits in my lap. If you are someone who spends >$100 on a keyboard and mouse, this is probably not the way you want to play. But I am pretty casual and it works fine for me. You could get a couch desk type thing like this. Could do the same thing but with a desk chair too.
I use this along with an office chair on those rare occasions I'm gaming with the keyboard and mouse.

This is similar to what I have, but my worktop is a little wider.

I think this style would work better since it has two legs rather than one
The desk is an Ikea Fredde: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50219044/
The side tables are adapted laptop stands. I went with these guys because of how the floor part interacts with the base of the chair:
Note: I did not put the casters on my laptop stands.
If I want to do room scale VR, I can slide the two tables off to the side of the room and I'm set.

this one is big enough for my k70 and a trackball
Either that^ or this
You could try a uhh, a laptop table. Kinda like what you see here on amazon, they're kinda like the serving trays you see for beds, but you can also get the carts that are often used in the tech industry because they're mobile, kind of like this one.
I personally have a laptop desk for my living room just because sometimes when I'm gaming in there, I like to have easy access to the internet if I want to look something up. The only downside is they can be pricey.
A good example of tweaking that MMOS need for Living Room/Couch play is DC Universe Online. When it first came out the UI wouldn't scale properly for TVs. I could barely read the UI Elements for the longest time.
I've tried Steam Big Picture mode but I dunno, for some reason it just doesn't feel the same. Maybe I'll give it a shot again once more steam boxes become available, for now I'll keep my computer gaming confined to my office that I use for streaming.
The big desk is probably an Ikea Bekant. I got it for free from an ex-coworker who moved out of town. The small desk on the right is this one here.
What about something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0097GMHXG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wihCDb4BGXH6Z
