My brother wrote fictional drug-related horror novel in prison. The title is “Shadow People", by Kane Graves. My girlfriend did the cover art. It's a full length novel, and in my opinion it is brilliantly written. It’s a really fun read, but definitely scary at the same time. I just don't know where to start, since the book only appears on amazon as of last month. My brother poured his heart and soul into the project, and the book in NO WAY glorifies or promotes drug use. It shows the consequences of a fictional character's descent into psychosis because of his addictions, but also has elements of humor, horror, and mystery. The main character's arc explores death of loved ones, insanity, reckless behavior, and the consequences of his addiction and desperation. Again, it is a work of fiction, but it's something I think the users here would very much enjoy. We are simply trying to reach a target audience. So far, since the book is only a month old in publishing, and my brother can’t promote it himself, very few have read it. April 14th is when the book went live for sale.
I am very proud of my brother for producing so much new writing, he’s made several short stories and this is his first full novel. He also has a band and is working on a degree from prison!
Thing is, he’s asking me to help him compile and submit the finished productions to the publishers, and I’m all to willing to help, but he can't do anything on the promotional side from prison, so I'm just trying to help on his behalf. If you enjoy the book let us know! Thank you for your understanding! I love that you’re interested in self published works, and if you'd like to know more about the book please reach out to me!
Here is the excerpt from the back cover-
"A dark, maniacal, and psychologically bent tale of addiction, psychosis, guilt, and long for a world not our own, Shadow People is in equal parts dark comedy and psychological horror story. Ulysses Bright is a young man hell-bent on hedonism and self-annihilation. A mid-level drug dealer and methamphetamine addict, he often goes on drug binges and stays awake for days at a time. When he does, he begins to see things… and people… that aren’t really there. At least, he thinks they aren’t really there. As a nightmarish, psychedelic fog of sleep deprivation and amphetamine psychosis begins to take hold, he becomes less and less sure of what constitutes reality, for him and for a world that seems to be going all sorts of wrong all around him; a world where the dead don’t stay dead and shadowy monsters lurk just out of focus in the periphery of our minds. Gaze longingly into the abyss, and do not be surprised when it gazes back at you…"
