Hey there! I also made a cross country move and brought two cats (Looking back, I dont know how I did it hahaha). Here's a link to the carriers that I bought: Sherpa Original Deluxe Pet... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FLETX8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I flew Alaska and the carriers fit under the seat in front of us. My sister flew with me since they said only one animal per person. My cats were about 10-12 lbs each and they didnt move during the flight so I wouldnt worry too much about that. It might be other animals that they have that notice for...
Good luck with the move!
I flew delta using a sherpa and I recall one of my flights having an odd underseat dimension. No one asked any questions or measured my dog or the carrier. It did stick out a bit on one of the flights (longways into my leg area maybe a half to one inch) but again, no one said anything.
I think u/littletoast flies with their dog as well.
I’m assuming you’re asking because you’re looking for a long term solution. My boy is about 26.5 lbs and he fits in this carrier just fine even though he’s past the weight limit. I suggest replacing the shoulder strap on this one, otherwise it’s great quality. He’s eaten through a different mesh carrier, no problems with this one

Not me, but my wife used to take our small dog (a yorkie) with her to work on her bike and just got one of those small pet carriers for traveling with pets and would clip it into a front bike rack. Also had a small blanket in there as well for warmth and padding. But her commute was only about 5 or 6 miles.
Like this - it opens from the top or the mesh-sided front. I have a small black one and a medium purple one.

YMMV but we were hassled on both ends of a LAX to PHL flight, using the Maskyeon carrier. On the first flight, the check-in agent had her supervisor come out to approve it after measuring it and telling us it was an inch too large (even though it contradicted some language on their web page). On the second flight, the check-in agent rudely refused it, and said the only reason she was going to allow us on the plane was because they couldn't leave us stranded.
We might give the Sherpa a chance next time (although honestly, we'd prefer to just not fly AA). In our case, we'd get a large, but your yorkie might be able to fit into a medium.
I have this carrier that I actually got off of Facebook Market place for super cheap and it was new! Check there for good deals. I have the medium size and it fits a 2.5 lb bun and a 5 lb bun perfectly with plenty of room to move around. I love all of the pockets and that it opens at the top and at the front. The straps are also way more comfy than holding a hard plastic cage in my opinion.
That should work. I've never used it but I know someone who has something like that. They can hide inside if they are scared, but can still see out. I don't really like backpacks because they pretty much have to be in a standing position.
It says the rear of the top will compress several inches. These carriers aren't made for the animal to stand though - just enough space to travel. So while the height measurement should be fine, you gotta worry about the width - that won't collapse. I'd assume the 0.5" shouldn't make a difference. ~~If you are really worried just buy the medium size online. It's 25 bucks.~~ just noticed you said you are travelling in two days
I've taken multiple dogs through spirit using Sherpa bag. As long as it is a soft sided carrier that can be placed under their seats it is fine. The small bag is their dimensions I believe, but the medium bag which is slightly larger still worked and we never had any problems. And we had much bigger dogs (20-25lbs). They are scotties so they are short and dense.
I have a couple of these and am very happy with them. Entry/exit can be done from the top or the end. When using the end, there's a handy padded base that you can pull out if kitty prefers to remain inside.
If they have to be in different crates (check the airline rules), then you could buy crates with large mesh panels on the side. That way they could see each other. Here's an example:
I recently took my rat terrier on a plane for Thanksgiving, and it was awesome having him with me.
I have three suggestions.
go with something more like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sherpa®-Original-DeluxeTM-Airline-Approved/dp/B000FLETX8/
Hey! I know this is post is a few days old but I have some answers since I'm also bringing my cat home for Christmas.
I'm not sure where you are in the world or if it would even be different than here in Canada, but airlines do not want you giving your cat any sort of medication. My vet explained to me that it's a liability thing in case anything happens to the cat. What my vet DID recommend is this powder supplement to put in her food. I've been using it for a while now and its definitely helped get my normally bouncing-off-the-walls crazy cat to calm down. I've done a few test runs in my cat's carrier and while she would normally throw a hissy fit before and cry nonstop, she has no issue now and even voluntarily sleeps in her carrier from time to time.
I also bought this carrier. I like it because the back end of the carrier can squish, so if the under-seat space in the airplane is tight, it can fit. I've also booked my seat to be near the very front so there isn't as much noise around her as it would be in a middle row near the engines.

does the southwest carrier look like the sherpa brand dog carrier ?
we use the sherpa brand for our dachshund mix and she loves it.
over time our bag wouldn’t stay upright so i took a large pyrex baking container top and placed it in the pocket on the end to give the bag shape. it can also double as a water bowl in a pinch when you’re traveling.
hope this helps.

I have been taking my giant vive box back and forth for demos ... and a number of times I thought that I was going to drop it with it being so awkward. I've been watching this subreddit close to see if any carrying/storage suggestions would work for me - but finally I just decided to look around the house. My soft cat carrier was some how just built to house the vive perfectly and safely :) I'm very happy with it. Just thought that I'd share it with you all ^^ http://imgur.com/a/xuXso *See how I put the light houses in their own foam and stick it right in the bag? Same with the controllers ^^
You can buy it at amazon for just about $50 (You need the 'large' size) https://www.amazon.com/Sherpa-Original-Deluxe-Carrier-Medium/dp/B000FLETX8/191-8809764-9539547?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
I Hope this helps some people :)
It isn't built for throwing around or sitting on .. but it is a very nice compact carrying case and not very heavy ^_^

I carried/bused with a medium Sherpa for a year with my 10lb pup. I took it on a couple flights too. I didn't like how the carrier didn't have a mesh window at the top. This year, I switched to an Oxgord carrier. I like it much better from a dog's visibility standpoint. It's less sturdy though and can flop over compared to the Sherpa; that said, Oxgord's carrier is much lighter and IMO, easier to carry. They both have seatbelt loops if you drive, but I highly doubt they'll stand up in an accident compared to something like the Sleepypod.
