If you insist, "You're an idiot."
You have a laptop or desktop?
If a laptop, get an adapter or dock from Amazon for like $20-30.
If desktop, either get an adapter or dock. Or save $$, open the case and plug the old drive into an unused slot.
But based on your response you'll find better luck with an adapter or dock.
Something like this
SISUN ® 2.5"/3.5" IDE SATA HDD Docking Station +Card Reader Hub (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009F7TXMK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FBYRAbVBQJ4VC
Something like this should work. If you just google "external drive enclosure" or "external HDD dock" you should find plenty of options.
The catch is the drive on the left is an old ass IDE drive. So you specifically need a dock / enclosure that will support that. The one I linked supports IDE - but doesn't seem to have glowing reviews. Might be fine for a 1 time thing. Also Amazon will take a return no questions asked (ULPT!)
Hey something like this Amazon Toaster PATA
I don't believe so - since its showing up as black instead of blue I don't think that drive actually initialized. Since you're dealing with data that is important to you - totally go with the USB toaster! Less risk!
The other comment mentioned external drive enclosures are probably your best bet so you don't have to open your box to look at all of them. 3 of those drives, however, are IDE so you will have to get something that can support both SATA and IDE like this
I will try this for sure when I get free time (have to study for an exam)
The biggest issue is even getting to that point. I can't load up windows 7 if the drive is connected like my computer is try to read it and it's holding up the boot from the drive to boot up.
Would something like this help? http://www.amazon.com/Sisun-Docking-Station-Reader-Black/dp/B009F7TXMK
No training. You know more than the manager 9 times out of 10, and even that one time it's just because they don't get something wrong and they still an't do anything.
My assistant manager doesn't know the difference between save and save as, and thought she could save and it would update the attachment in an email. She's worked for OD for 20 years apparently...
On top of that, you'll have people bringing printers in for you to look at when there's virtually nothing you can do for them in store. You will be blamed for selling them 'crappy computers' when they come in and demand the celeron processor computers because they look cute and are touch screen, but run slower than a turtle.
You will have people come in being proud that they "don't know" or "aren't good" with tech.
You will have to deal with people who want phones that don't use electricity, and even when you insist that even rotary phones used electricity they will call you a liar and complain the manager.
Services are remotely done 90% of the time. The only services you do in store are hardware install (which no one ever gets), data transfers, and windows installations. Store use a flash drive and create your own Windows Install Boot Key to make your life 110% easier.
You will be calling Tech Depot Services daily because they're too idiotic to enter passwords for Microsoft Office even when you sticky note it to the desktop.
You will have to fill out a useless tech book because the numbers are already on the store portal, so it's redundant.
You will be dealing with a lot of slow internet, and hopefully you can convince your manager to get this hard drive adapter like we were able to at my store because so many people bring in old computers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009F7TXMK/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AOJETWCXN7SHI
If a computer has a Windows XP or Vista sticker on it, just recommend them a new computer from the start.
Your life will revolve around scamming people into bogus protection plans and services. For example, fear mongering tactics about spectre and meltdown when the fix for it is IN THE LATEST WINDOWS AUTOMATIC UPDATE! You are charging people to literally run an automated Windows update!
-It's pathetically low, and relies on stupid people because all the smart people shop on Newegg or order from Amazon.
Learn about printers because they're pretty easy. This subreddit will help you a ton: https://www.reddit.com/r/printers/ Printers are about the most finicky things in the technology world. They suck. Just use a mobile to get the dpi and the rest is all on the card most times.
STORE USE A FLASH DRIVE! This will be extremely helpful for small data transfers and in general just all the work needed. You can copy whatever you need onto it, high quality sample images for printer demos until they run out of their starter ink! Very helpful, since wifi connecting is very slow on most of the printers and annoying. Also, Epson EcoTank has absolute garbage photo quality regardless of what anyone tells you. Take some 52pt glossy card-stock from CPD and keep it at your tech desk or under the printers so you can show customers print quality.
Keep your tech desk organized. Make sure you have decent cable management. It doesn't have to be perfect, but a clean work area makes your life easier.
The only thing your managers and superiors care about are protection plans and services. Nothing else.
You can order a lot of parts on our website and have them shipped in to install. Just keep that in mind, but they will always be cheaper on Newegg.
If you don't already know a lot about computers, learn the basics. The basics of what you really need are knowing processors and memory. Storage can always be fixed, and most computers come with 1TB now or an SSD. SSDs are much faster, more expensive, and usually less total storage. You also won't be getting a good laptop for under $300 usually. Use this channel for learning more tech stuff: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0vBXGSyV14uvJ4hECDOl0Q
Gaming PC's: Nothing we have in store is usually acceptable for someone looking for an actual gaming PC. It's the bottom line of what's acceptable. Nvidia 1050's won't run everything people expect it to usually, and RX570's are just plain bad for the price the computer is. Then again if they are looking in Office Depot of all places they probably shouldn't be buying until they get smarter anyways. Online store is k, but Newegg will ALWAYS have better prices.
BEST PART: You get to be on the floor most days and away from registers. Planogram setups are fun, and satisfying most times.
WORST PART: You will realize that everyone that is in that building is typically technologically retarded and can't understand the most basic of computer concepts. Even your managers probably don't know how to run a department in their own store and you are on your own. You will still get in trouble about things they can't understand, like slow internet speeds effecting service speeds.
Good luck! Remember that 90% of all tech stuff can be Googled and answered within a few seconds.
Neat little device. I'm trying to figure out if this is really a sale or not. 25 bucks seems to be the standard price for these types of things if you look at This but that model is only usb 2.0
The only comparable models for USB 3.0 seem to be in the $45 range also here. I've only done a cursory search.
The competitor products also look like what would happen if Asus ROG STRIX made a toaster so maybe this is the best bang for buck.
I have used this.
It worked great. My friend had a pc sitting in his garage for at least 10 years with a fried mobo. I saved his music collection that had somewhere close to 98GB of music on it. He would literally have his friends bring over every CD they owned and he would rip the data off of them.
something like this
