while I agree, spears as a weapon are really only suited for wide open spaces, in the context of a zombie outbreak I think you'd be in urban environments mostly and spears could get caught on everything and anything, so knives and short blades would be more practical, hell, just get a machete for normal slashing and a crescent machete to delimb zombies, or just swing it just right to decapitate.
