You've read some great ones already, but I feel like these two would also be right up your alley:
Sleeper by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips (Wildstorm) - The series that kicked off the sensational award winning creative team. Sleeper perfectly mixes espionage intrigue in a world of superpowered heroes and villians. Holden is working deep cover in a super-powered criminal organization when the only man who can confirm his identity lapses into a coma. With all trace of his mission in peril and his cover at risk of being blown, Holden must escape the corrupt, deceptive world that he's worked so hard to infiltrate. Sleeper preview pages on Amazon
The Core by Jonathan Hickman with art by Kenneth Rocafort (Top Cow) - This is a single issue that was part of Top Cow's 2008 Pilot Season talent hunt promotion. Although it did not win the contest, it's still a fun, self-contained, one-off read. This was written in the same year as his breakout The Nightly News, and you can see all the Hickman brilliance is on early display here with imaginative world-building, high-stakes plot, and sci-fi theatrics. A quick, enjoyable ride - available on MyComicShop. The Core on MyComicShop
Loose Ends by Jason LaTour with art by Chris Brunner (12 Gauge/Image) - Billed as a Southern Crime Romance, Loose Ends delivers a hard-boiled gut punch full of small-town violence, corrupt cops, and narcotics. Sonny is a small-time narcotics dealer trying to disappear, Rej is his drug running associate, and Cheri is a disillusioned diner waitress caught up in spiral of circumstances created by the violence and depravity of the drug trade. Loose Ends is about the intersections of criminality that connects them. Brunner's neon-tinged artwork is gorgeous, but full disclosure that the writer, Jason LaTour, has been exposed for sexual misconduct, and there is some graphic sexual depictions here that is not for sensitive sensibilities. However, I still feel that despite the creator's despicable behavior, as a work of art on its own, it's a gripping southern noir crime story. Loose Ends preview pages on Amazon
Before you buy anything physical that you already own digital, might I suggest Sleeper? Some of my favorite Brubaker.
