Who knows? But if you're interested in that era, read Peter Coyote's memoir "Sleeping Where I Fall." He was one of the original Diggers who tried to create a whole new "everything is free" economy in Haight-Ashbury in the '60s, then moved out to various communes when that fell apart. He's a brilliant guy who went on to have a successful career as a film and voiceover actor. See his Wikipedia page.
