This one will stay on if you use the AC power, but will auto shutoff on battery.
Had to ask. I use this at my home in my gym to weight random stuff. It’s worked ok so far and isn’t too expensive. If it’s a 12” log my guess is minimum 80lbs but could easily be double that, just depends
The scale you recommended should work great! Another super common scale to see among the grip community is this one and it's also the one I use. It works great at higher weights, but has some accuracy issues below 10lbs, but that's the only issue I have and with it. It has measured 250+ lbs without complaint, and the plastic protective layer it came with is still somewhat in tact after all my lifts, so it has some lasting ability. u/runningriot4fun
I had my own scale when I lived in the US so would print my own USPS labels from their site. You get a discount doing it that way. The mailman would just pick up the packages when he delivered the mail.
I bought and really like this one so far. It's a postal scale. 440lb max

I use this one, it checks all of your boxes.
It will auto-turn off if on batteries, but not if plugged in.
Because I sell things heavier than 10 pounds, I got this one. Seems well reviewed on Amazon, and I haven't had any issues since I got it a month ago:

I have an issue with a shipping scale I purchased. Every time I turn the scale on it will tare automatically, even with an item on it. This way I have to lift the box to retare the scale, which is pretty heavy at just under 50lb (FBA shipments).
Do all scales behave this way or are there ones that will always display the detected weight? This is the one I have - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0153I0418/ref=olp-opf-redir?aod=1&ie=UTF8&psc=1/ref=olp_f_new%3fie=UTF8&f_all=true
There's 2 ways I can think of, neither of which I've tried (but I have planned for).
1) get a normal digital scale, disassemble it, put the strain gauges under a bigger platform (plywood sheet). Scale should have a detachable readout. This is the one I have (though I haven't disassembled it yet): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0153I0418/. Then you'd be able to roll onto the platform and weigh yourself with a readout you can actually see.
2) Get a hanging scale (something like https://smile.amazon.com/Digital-Hanging-Aluminum-Handheld-Hunting/dp/B08669YYV7/ ?). Attach to door frame and add handle, then do a pullup (probably with chair, unless you can get high enough up that nothing's touching the chair).
Or do it the old fashion way; get someone to weigh themself, then hold you and weigh both, subtract the numbers.
If you're really curious and push me, I'll build one or both of these methods and see which one works.

Not for books specifically because I stopped doing that, but for Amazon / Ebay up to 50lbs. I like it because it has a low profile so is easy to slide under a heavy box, plus it has a separate display for easy reading.
Most bathroom scales suck like this, even expensive ones. You know what doesn't suck? Shipping scales! Think about it, a shipping scale MUST be accurate for calculating postage. They're often cheaper and FAR more accurate, and it's consistent 99% of the time. Mine was $40 and is accurate down to the twentieth of a pound. It's the same size as a bathroom scale and has the option to be plugged in, too. I think it might have a 400lb. weight limit, not sure about that. Here are a couple options that look comparable.
