Buy yourself one of these brushes. After an overnight downpour, you push these a few times and it'll save a few lives and tickets.
99% of it. Get a good snow brush, snoe joe or something similar. those 1 foot 2$ ones just aren't worth it.
You can pull windshield wipers up to better get at that spot. Leave too much there when your driving that will blow and cause some problems.
Also find yourself an empty parking lot and drive around test your breaks see how your car responds in snow where you won't crash into cars/lighting poles
Another option is a snow broom. It's just a block of foam on an extendable pole, but it won't scratch paint. Brush is still better for windows, but this makes it super-easy to quickly clear several inches of snow on your car's roof and it collapses so you can stash it in your trunk.
I use one of those foam "Snow Joe Compact Show Broom", and I keep it is my cab. My wife bought us them a couple of years ago, and they work very well. I'll link it below.
I just purchased one of those "Frost Guards" windshield covers to try out this year. My wife has one in her Subaru, and it seems to work out well for her.

Side note while we're talking about shoveling driveways: I'm short, drive a small SUV, and don't have a garage spot, and this snow broom thing made cleaning off my car in the winter 10,000 times quicker and easier, now I give them as gifts: https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y
Grab a snow broom like this one Snow Joe FBA_SJBLZD The Original 2-In-1 Telescoping Snow Broom + Ice Scraper w/18-Inch No-Scratch Head, Closed Cell Foam for No Water Absorption, Blue, 1 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FV5R0Y/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_5HTCD06DWRA3BMVN473B
I hate it when people leave snow on the roof of their vehicle. I use one of these. It makes it so much easier to get all of the snow on the roof especially on larger vehicles like SUVs since you can pull or push the snow off. It works 10x better than using an old broom. A broom will scratch up your paint/clear coat over time.
If you don't already have one of these get one. It makes snow removal x10 easier. It works wonders on large vehicles. I used an old broom as well but it will scratch the clear coat over time. Since you can push/pull the snow off it makes it much easier.
I suggest you invest a few sheckles in this. It's extendable and makes it super easy to clear your car. Get a snow joe! It’s the length of a broom but with a foam rectangle on one end, so it won’t scratch your car. We keep it by our front door to brush off the cars. So much easier than trying to get the brush out of the trunk when it’s covered in snow!

I drive a 3rd gen Cummins Ram and THIS is what I use to clear off snow
Hi, I'm new to the sub so forgive me if the question is a little dumb.
I live in the North East (Boston). Unfortunately, the snow has already started. I picked a brand new X1 last week. I also do not have a garage and have to park outside. I am trying to figure out a way to remove snow from my car without damaging my paint too much.
I read in the wiki that the recommended way is to use a microfiber towel draped around the snow brush.
What about the snow brushes which claim to not damage paint - aka the soft spongy ones , like this ? How bad is this when compared to the recommended method ?
When comparing a broom/ foam head pusher versus a traditional brush
What is safest for paint and such?
I live in Canada so 100% going to have to buy one of these and a ice scraper for the Windows
Something like this works a lot better for getting snow off. It works really well for deep snow. I used a scraper/brush combo for 10 years and the first time I used one of the Snow Joes/Snow Brums it was orgasmic. All of my family have them now. If you live in a really snowy area like Minnesota, Michigan, Colorado, etc. it is totally worth it. You still need a regular scraper, and I still find the brush useful for the little crevices, but they are totally worth it. They also don't hold snow so they don't end up melting all over your floors.
Get one of these, it will take two minutes to clear your car entirely. https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_2
Telescoping roof rake is the right answer. I've had this one for years and it's great.
I have a Snow Joe for the roof; for added protection you can wrap a microfiber towel around it and secure with rubber bands.
you don't have a snow broom?
I think just get one of these https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y
Get a good snow broom if you don't have one. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y

buy one of these as I found it works the best at removing snow even from an suv.
It's front wheel drive. If it was a rear wheel drive sedan, it'd say look into snow tires. Reason being that FWD means the weight of the engine is put on the tires that are driven. I.e. more traction. Snow tires last multiple seasons, you could always get snow tires mid-season if you feel uncomfortable.
If this is your first season driving, at all, in the snow, I'd recommend keeping a small shovel, sand or ice melt, and the greatest invention, a "snow broom" in your trunk.

Snowbrooms are awesome for cars, way better than brushes (which do have their place).

Something like that, HD and Menards sell them! They are for fluffy snow though so they won't remove snow that has melted and turned into ice.

You want something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y
It is foam so it won't hurt your paint and it telescopes so you can clear off your roof, windshield, hood, and trunk. It also has a scraper for the windows.
Bruh. Skip the brush and upgrade to the snow push.
You don't need two devices, this does the job of both and doesn't ruin your paint.
Not at all. I use this with great results every winter, and no paint damage
I like this one, doesnt scratch the car either https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SJBLZD-Telescoping-Scraper/dp/B008FV5R0Y/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1539569983&sr=8-13&keywords=extendable+snow+brush
I have read that the brooms (with pads) are better than the brushes. However, for an extra level of protection, you could also wrap a microfiber towel around the broom pad. Also, remember not to put too much pressure while removing snow.
Buy a foam snow brum or equivalent it works loads better than the bristled brushes.
