I would recommend the Sofirn SP32A V2.0
~$36 on amazon w/ battery and charger
~1300 lumen (claim)
There are 2 mode groups (ramping and Moonlight-Low-Mid-High) Default mode is the Eco-Low-Mid-High. So he won't get confused.
click once to turn on (has memory)
click to cycle modes
hold to turn off
double click for turbo
I like the one I got. Only down side might be the led if you are a tint snob (XP-L2 V6 3D 5350-5700K might have a greenish tint)
You can search for reviews on forums and youtube. There are plenty.
edit: another potential downside: No low voltage protection. The button will blink red to tell user to recharge the battery though.
I’ve been carrying the Sofirn SP32A V2 for about two years. I’m an armed guard at a facility located way up in the mountains, I’m constantly outside in the elements, snow, rain, heat, etc and this light has had my back through everything. It’s waterproof, (I’ve dropped it in the water a couple times) and pretty durable. It’s also really cheap for the quality. Sofirn makes budget flashlights, but you literally can’t tell the difference between my light and some of my coworkers more expensive lights. Unfortunately, it looks like they might not make this model anymore, but if you can find it on eBay or something I’d say go for it.
I carry a Sofirn, can’t remember the model but I’ve had it for about two years and it’s great. Only cost around $35-$40. It came in the cheapest looking box I’ve seen but the build quality is phenomenal. Very durable and totally waterproof, I carry it in the rain, and I’ve dropped on the pavement a few times from a decent height, it in puddles where it was totally submerged in water, and it still keeps shining. has four brightness settings, with the brightest hitting 1000 lumens on turbo mode, and it has a strobe. There are a few quality of life features it lacks, such as having to remove the battery to recharge it rather than just plugging in the flashlight itself, and the switch is located on the side rather than on the butt of the light, but overall it’s an amazing flashlight for the money. Probably the best bang for your buck brand I’ve seen. One of the more mainstream brands would probably cost double for what this little guy offers.
Edit: I have the Sofirn SP32A V2 - $30.99 at Amazon right now.

Thanks for the contest! I had a good time picking out the light, Amazon US isn't shipping a lot internationally right now!
Good list here. Would like to also suggest this set up from amazon. My father has been enjoying this sofrin from there.

Throwing another option into the mix: Sofirn SP32a v2 bundle with battery and charger $35.99 on Amazon, or $26.65 shipped from China, from their AliExpress shop.
There are some incredible lights out there not only much smaller than what you've got but significantly more powerful. Thrunite has a bundle deal on their amazing TC12 w/XP-L where you get the light with built-in charging and battery for $60 or Sofirn's SP32A v2.0 bundle is only $30 from Amazon. They are both top-notch quality at 1/2 the cost of olight and some of the other big names. Go with a neutral color, you won't be disappointed!
Okay, I'll go from way under budget to slightly over budget...
Downsides: doesn't have charging built-in but it does come with a little charger. Cool white emitter.
Plus sides: Good brand, and there is a [coupon code](DNNQ-VDZSCY-J6ACAK) right now which makes this light $21 CAD!
I don't have any experience with this light, but I did have an A6 and it was good. Has built-in charging but again has a cool white emitter. Pretty good for $43
This is a bit over budget at $66 but it's the best of the three IMO. More power, neutral white emitter, and built-in charging.

The SP32 is $27.25 on Amazon US (after 6% coupon discount) , and lists 1300LM vs 1200 of the SP31. Are there any reasons not to spend the extra $2? Sorry, fairly new to the sub!
