Tl;dr Maybe try a different therapy in conjunction with the EMDR, something like somatic therapy.
I've never been to a therapist myself for various personal reasons. Instead I used an ad hoc, do-it-yourself approach, using books and youtube videos. Which has led to me using a variety of techniques in combination often in the course of the same day. So take my advice for what it's worth, but I believe something like somatic therapy might compliment the EMDR, especially if you're having trouble accessing emotions. Because somatic therapy works with where the emotions live: in the body, something I've only recently learned having been so cut off from my emotions. I use this book [LINK]. It's written for therapists, but there isn't anything in there you can't do for yourself.
I've been working on this because I have this problem too.
Apparently emotions live in the body, who knew! Somatic therapy has helped me a bit with that, as well was mindfully watching myself during meditation. I got this book to help: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1683731352?pf_rd_r=MGP7WR53ZDJCPK5PH9H3&pf_rd_p=6fc81c8c-2a38-41c6-a68a-f78c79e7253f
I got this book for myself:
It's intended for therapists, but so far there doesn't seem to be anything in it you can't do on your own. I've only been working with it for a few days and it's helped quite a bit already.
I know how you feel. I've been suffering from sever body dysmorphia on and off due to recent trauma related to my original CPTSD. When I look in the mirror sometimes I see something akin to the pale man from Pan's Labyrinth. I don't know what the cause is, given what happened I'm surprised it's even a problem for me, but it is.
A post on this sub recommended somatic therapy for CPTSD. So I got a book on it since I've little desire to go to an actual live therapist about my problems. I've only been doing it for a few days but there has been a big difference already.
It's aimed at therapists, but that hasn't prevented me using any of the 'tools' for myself so far.
