It's powered by DC to USB. Sorry I was clear about it before. It uses a low power port, and still leaves room for the QC.

I’ve got a ‘10 premium MT and have had one of these for 7 years now. It just works with no frills. I have the microphone puck stuck to the utility pocket under the armrest, the ff/rwd buttons are backwards, but I got used to it.
Say, if you want to put a bluetooth dongle in your car, this is the best one I've found out of the half dozen or so I've tested over the years
https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-SB360-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=sr_1_4
This frees up the USB port on your phone for charging.
Either way, you'll likely also want the Ground Loop Isolator to get rid of alternator buzz.
Sure..I have 3 off these and good luck so far.

Why not put a Bluetooth device in your car? I can recommend Soundbot, it's cheap and the sound is as good as plugging your device into the AUX port.
I use a $20 Soundbot. I was comparing reviews and someone said this device sounded much better than the other one they were reviewing and I was reading, so I went with this.
I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for but it’s what I did in my car. This thing hooks into the Aux port and then acts as a Bluetooth receiver for music, calling etc.

Picked that one up for $20 bucks and I absolutely love it.
Lol if buy that one, your problems are due to you trying to find a way to complain about anything. First your car was older, then you said your car is newer with proprietary radio. Your making up all of it

I used that one, had no issues until I decided to spend a hour of my day and installed a new headunit
Stop crying
You can search car bluetooth on Amazon. Either get this or something similar would be the easiest and cheapest solution. https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-SB360-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO
All you do is plug in the adapter to 12v port, connect the usb wire to it then connect the aux wire to your aux port. The control buttons are mounted via the included double sided tape. Just mount it somewhere within reach. You don't have to fiddle with your phone at any point other than initial bluetooth setup. After that, it will connect automatically if your bluetooth is on when you start your car.
EDIT: Or get an old ipod and put all your songs on there so you'll have your old functionality with the steering wheel in aux mode.
I have this one. I've had it for about a month and like it a lot. It automatically pairs to my phone and comes with a small adhesive controller that sticks to your dashboard. The controller has track forward and backward, as well as a button to answer calls. It plugs into your cars lighter outlet and has three usb type a ports. (One is used to power the Bluetooth itself). I might switch to something with a type c port but this one works great for now.
If you're interested in Bluetooth on the cheap, I got a Bluetooth adapter from Amazon for about $19. Plugged it in to a 3.5mm to cassette adapter in my 25 year old 4runner and it works great! Definitely recommend.
Edit: I got this one

I don't like the headphone jack removal, either. But is it really an extra attachment if you are getting rid of the aux cable?

Cheap and works wonders. Sorry if you hate me for the added spam.

You don't have to install new parts in your car, you can just get a little bluetooth puck that sticks to the dash. I have this one, got it shortly after buying my car two years ago, and I've never nad an issue with it.
If the Subaru has an Aux port on your stereo, grab a Bluetooth-Aux Port adapter (example). You can tell AA to launch when you activate the bluetooth device.
I grabbed a Vent-Mount that has wireless charging as well. It's possible to wirelessly charge you 6p with a Qi adapter too.
Yes, I have one of these. Yes, it will auto-connect once paired. I would recommend a unit with the ability to skip tracks like the one posted above. It is a lot easier to change songs with a push of a button. https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487627478&sr=8-1&keywords=soundbot+bluetooth I use this in my other car.
I got this one for one of my cars: https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO?th=1, and my other car I have a Belkin CarAudio Connect. Both powers on when power is supplied and auto connects, and launches DriveMode for me. As for a mount I went with one cup holder mount from Macally and a generic CD slot clip, you can find these on eBay.
in both my '02 E46 M3 (Business CD, no nav) and '08 E60 (old-ass iDrive), I used a cheap but reliable adapter: https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/
I gave away the first with the E46, and the second is going strong after about a year.

This powers on with my car and auto connects to my phone. Also turns off with car as well.

It's hard to believe that a 2012 Honda doesn't come with Bluetooth standard.
If in fact it doesn't, it should have an aux port. I use this aux-to-Bluetooth kit in my much older Scion tC. Works just fine.

A while back I found several under $20 on Amazon. I bought this one and it works fine: https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1473310035&sr=8-4&keywords=bluetooth+auto
I used to use the 3.5mm jack but wireless is actually a nicer experience, just start the car and it pairs and I can press a button on it to start the music (and skip tracks etc).
I much prefer bluetooth everything and no wires, I am not going to mourn the 3.5mm jack, I'm looking forward to more and better wireless solutions.
Soundbot SB360. It costs less than $20, plugs directly into the 3.5mm aux port, connects with your phone within 3-4 seconds of powering up, works as a pretty decent hands-free speakerphone (depending on placement) and has A2DP controls on it for pausing and skipping songs.
(For the record I think Apple ditching the 3.5mm port is bullshit, but I've been using the SB360 for a couple years now and it's great.)
I got this one a few weeks ago for my wife and ended up buying another one for me to replace the one I was using. It works really well. It pairs automatically to your phone when you turn on the ignition. You can skip songs. It gives you hand free phone and access to Siri without getting your phone out. Well worth the price. Since I stopped using cable about two years ago I haven't had to fiddle with the connection to have stereo or any sound at all (every few month I had to replace the cable).
You can also try something like this if you don't want to worry about keeping another device charged.
You may be interested in this then:
Turns your AUX into Bluetooth, gives you media controls off your phone, and has a better mic for driving than the phone's built in mic. All for under $20. I've been using one in my car for a couple years because it is, in my opinion, a nicer experience than using AUX. It turns on when your car turns on and off when your car turns off.
This is the one I got, turns on when the car turns on, automatically connects and has controls on it. I like it

Dude, get this. It plugs into your aux port and is a bluetooth receiver. No more plugging in the aux cable.
My radio used to take forever (and I'd have to repair once a week) so I got this Soundbot and love it. It connects within a couple of seconds of the car being started.
My Mercedes S class didn't have AUX or bluetooth, so I soldered an AUX cable onto the deck and attached this.
You can set up your phone to connect to both that and your cars bluetooth at the same time. Then in the bluetooth options for each, set your car to only phone and that device to only media.
Otherwise, you can get something like this that I have in my wife's car:
I came across this: http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453078759&sr=8-1&keywords=car+hands+free
I am assuming maybe this can be a nice alternative as the wires seem long enough to wrap around or something. I basically have to now get creative with hiding the wires coming from the arm rest, but I guess that isn't too shabby for $16
I've had this one for several months and no issues. No noticeable battery drain either http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1446037443&sr=1-4&keywords=bluetooth+adapter+car
I have the tune2air on my 2010 A5, and it works okay, but as you say, with some quirks.
I don't believe we will ever have an update that would enable bluetooth music streaming on the B8 MMI.
I found that my new Motorola Droid Turbo bluetooth is a little dodgy and doesn't handle it as well as my Galaxy S4 did, but it's still workable.
I haven't found a new better device as of yet, but I did find just put this in my wife's Hyundai and it works pretty well.
Some questions:
I use a bluetooth adapter that plugs into my auxiliary port that works great. It was $18 on Amazon.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RH29CJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Your problem solved for $19.99 on Amazon.
I use this to get Bluetooth in my car. According to this page, you can use a Bluetooth speaker as your default for a Google Home. So you would hook your speakers into the Soundbot, then set your Soundbot as the default speaker for you Google Home. But if you did this, I believe all sound from your google home would go to the speakers.
I have one of these. Works well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RH29CJO/
You need to check amazon more...
My recommendation is you buy one of these and plug it into the cassette adapter.
https://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-SB360-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO
Lol sorry about that! This is the one I have and it's been great https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RH29CJO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I recommend one of these. They work great and let you control the music tracks, podcasts, audiobooks from the controller. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-T2GzbVJHKWSM
And you might need of these if you get a little bit of feedback like me. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019393MV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gV2Gzb37VFTSN
Or you can just buy this for 20 bucks and stick it to your dash. I've had it for two years, it's way better than a plug.
Oh, it requires an aux port and the USB is for power. I used this one and was completely satisfied.
I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_VL3PzbN4X230Q
with this to prevent feedback noise, it really helped!!: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019393MV2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AM3PzbDZEMPVP
I don't think it exists just yet. You might be better off getting a Bluetooth adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RH29CJO/
Then with an extra port on that USB car adapter, just use a standard USBA to USBC cable
I use this and perfectly works with BT on my Pixel XL. My Pixel XL's BT also has been flawless on my Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4's stock stereo system.
While it isn't completely hands free on use one of these.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_5nn9xbS2WBMWP
Works great
There are bluetooth to aux gadgets for cars. I use the Soundbot Sb360 and it has been working out great.
I use this guy in my car. It's powered by USB and turns on when I start my car.
I use the older version of this guy when I want to be portable and don't have bluetooth headphones with me. (mine doesn't have NFC and I think it's a little smaller)
I just added this to my car, its actually playing through a tape deck, sounds great:

That one is very elegant, but there are other solutions available at Amazon.
I'll trump you (no pun intended) on this. Works great with the same setup in my 2012 CTS. http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00
Does your car have an AUX plugin? If so get this, I have one and it's great.
Well my phone is about 6 inches from the dongle where it's mounted, and its not a built in BT, it's a separate dongle I purchased. http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO
Both very good ideas though.
I've never had any Bluetooth streaming issues with my car (Using this device https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RH29CJO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_SJkBwbSK1DERG). Have a OG Moto 360 paired with the One M8 for the first few months and now Nexus 6P.
Ahh, I see. I just got this for my wife's Hyundai Sonata and it works well.
What about something like this?
The problem with this is that charge current is limited to 500mA.
Why tf do I have to spend more money for something that I shouldn't fucking need to fix?
I'll be getting one, but connecting over bluetooth (as I already do). The 2010 R56 doesn't support A2DP audio, so I got one of these.
It's just an aux jack out so you unfortunately lose the steering wheel controls and info display (it's powered from USB, but doesn't send any data). I know some models support audio over bluetooth; if yours does, just use that. Given you're not already doing that, I'm assuming that yours does not.
