OK, so my latest idea is to purchase an electric dry heater with a grow tent (someone mentioned grow tents in another thread but they were using a steamer instead of a dry heater). I would place this in the garage until I get time/money to do a proper outdoor build using the same heater.
Here is a grow tent I found (just an example for the size I’m thinking – I didn’t do that much looking):
The heater I’m looking at initially is a Finlandia FLB-45 (100 to 210 cuft range). I think this would cover a proper 2 person sauna in the future when I do build one. I'll look at other options if I decide on this approach.
The heater has to be 7 to 12” off the floor so I would have to make a structure to hold it in the tent. Shouldn't be too hard with some 2x4's.
2x 4x10” inlet/outlet vents are recommended for the heater. This particular tent has a little smaller size vents but I’m guessing it will probably work.
I’m not exactly sure how the temperature probe mounts but I’m assuming it shouldn’t be too hard to mount it 12” from the ceiling in this tent.
It seems like most of these grow tents have metal structures so I'm a little worried about rust. I could possibly convert it myself to PVC if I can't find a tent that is plastic framing.
My wife will definitely not let me spend $3,000+ on a sauna right now which is a big reason why I want this approach. I'm hoping I can do something cheaper now that will prove to her that this is something I want long term but 1) be able to reuse the heater and 2) not have to go with a cheap infrared /non-sauna tent.
I'll have to wire 220V to the garage but that shouldn't be too hard.
Again, I looked at a Morzh tent but the smallest is way too big and would take up too much space.
If anyone sees anything wrong with this, please let me know.
