One of these things? Thanks for the idea, I'll keep it in mind. Although I don't have any carpets in the house, and it costs more than the tree, so it's something to keep in mind for the future.
How did you convince your cat to eat on the floor? Just putting the food down and leaving it there until he eats it, or do you have a more clever trick?

Do you have something like a spotbot to help with the upkeep? I got a spotbot pet and how it works is you set it down and it automatically shampoos an 8" circle of carpet. So you push the button then just walk away while it works. Then move it to a new spot. I let mine run while I cook dinner- it beeps when it's time to move it to a new spot.
The best part is that I don't have to buy replacement cleaning solution off the internet- they sell it at my local Meijer, which is super convenient.
The review on Amazon that sold me on it showed pictures of a cone of explosive diarrhea from a dog that wound up on beige carpet and it cleaned it. A redditor on /r/Parenting used it to clean up when her child colored with highlighter all over her light carpeting and I used it when I had an elderly rabbit who couldn't always make it to the litterbox in time.
Amazon will be having all sorts of flash deals on Thanksgiving weekend and the following week. I love shopping for cleaning type appliances on cyber Monday. Most people are so busy looking for TVs and video games that they overlook the kind of presents that could make mom's life easier.

I got both of these machines and both work great! The more expensive one (Pet SpotBot) I bought in 2014 and still works perfectly. The second one (Spotclean) I got this year by mistake. Both work great! I have fostered several litters of puppies, dogsat a number of unfamiliar/nervous doggos, and had my own pets. I have seen my run of diarrhea, poops, puddles, what-the-hell-did-you-eat’s, and more. I even used the Pet SpotBot to get up spilled red wine (whipped it out in under 30sec, pushed start, and cried tears of joy)! Pet SpotBot is pricier but it’s hands free and great. Until I get wood floors, this is the best. (I do use the Spotclean to clean my car and couch seats too).
These were better alternatives for me. That being said, I did also end up getting a full upright carpet cleaner for about $120 by waiting for it to go on sale at Target. So, if your heart is set on that, it IS worth the investment and can be cheap on sale at Target. The brand was Hoover I think... sorry I can’t help as much with that one.
Seconding the Spot Bot recommendation. Worth every penny in my opinion! We got the pet version.
