Hmmm. If you can find a Spyderco Delica Wave, I'd recommend that.
You indicated in another comment that you're on a budget of about forty dollars, and this knife is close: costs about sixty new. It opens quickly and securely, the handles are quality polymer reinforced with stainless steel, and the blade is made of VG-10, a great steel for a knife like this.
The clip is reversible, very nice if you're a lefty or carry your knife on your left side. I bought one for my sister, and she loves it. I myself carry an Emerson, with the same 'Wave' feature Mr. Emerson licensed to Spyderco, allowing you to automatically open the knife as you draw it from your pocket. It's easy to open it manually as well.
Good luck. Spyderco knives and Emerson knives have served me quite well, without the price of something mid-tech or custom.
Sprderco Delica Wave. Not only is it an awesome knife, but the wave feature doubles as a bottle opener. It's not the safest bottle opener, but it's safer that it looks, just be careful. Not a keychain knife though, but it's very pocketable.
Here's a version with the Emerson:

Here's a demo of how to use the hole in the blade to open it:

I'm looking to get a Delica 4, such a sexy knife!
since you're seeing my comments though, i guess i'll throw in my 2 cents
i have a lot of edc knives, but the one i keep going back to is the Spyderco Delica Wave-- the emerson opener catches on your pocket lining and opens the knife for you--fastest deploying folder.
here's a video demonstration (though his knife is the Endura- the Delica's big brother).
the steel is VG10, which i love. holds a wicked edge for a long time
Spyderco Delica Wave. Durable, reasonably priced, opens very quickly.
