I got distracted making a mockup of a possible cover to show you what I meant, but now I'm back.
Here is what I did, compared to your current cover and Aurora Rising.
Note that first I changed the aspect ration. I know Amazon suggests 1:1.6. Most book covers are closer to 1:1.5, and it tends to make the 1:1.6 covers look a little off, IMO, but that's up to you.
If you look at a lot of covers nowadays, the typography intersects with the art more. You rarely get the image and the type completely separated, and that tends to look dated. Even AR has the type over the girl's shirt, slightly overlapping her collar, and the lens flare goes right up over her face, connecting the various parts.
Disney gets away with movie-poster style treatments, like on this cover of Ahsoka, but...Star Wars is a movie and TV franchise at its heart. And even then, her lightsabers cross low, near the title, and point right at it. You'll find that a lot of the Disney Star Wars YA books shove the text to the top and bottom, but lines in the artwork point to the text--they design the typography and image together, instead of commissioning an image and then fitting the text on wherever there's space.
For the mockup I did of yours, I cropped in much closer on the girl. I also color-shifted the blues to purples, but that's not necessarily something you'll want to do. But I encourage you to check what current trends are: I think they're still secondary colors (green, purple, orange) instead of primary colors. You don't have to follow that rend, but if you break it, break it knowingly.
I also took the highlights down on her uniform because the BRIGHT WHITE of her uniform and the hard, flat black triangle of the insignia make her tits the focal point and you REALLY don't want that if you're trying to appeal to teenage girls. It sends a much different signal about the contents of the book.
There's also default Photoshop layer styles on the title and author name. Don't do that: those are dated. If you look at a lot of trad pub stuff now, like the Ahsoka cover I linked above, you'll see they're often flat white, or the treatment is subtle. Look at Thronebreakers, which is chasing the Aurora Rising audience. Young woman on cover, blurb about a young woman, title in grey with a subtle emboss, smack over the artwork (And her chest isn't highlighted!)
Back to your cover. I took the lens flares down to one, because more than one starts getting into parody, and used it as the crossbar of the A in the font I used (Ishimura). I gave it a bit of a neon layer style and darkened the area right behind the text so it would pop. I used Adobe Caslon Pro as the other font for the author name and text because looks More Serious Book Font instead of Movie Font.
I also adjusted the kerning on the title so the letters had more space between them, which makes things at display-font-size easier to read, especially if the image is tiny, like it is at Amazon search results sizes.
Speaking of which! Always look at your cover at 150 pixels tall! At 150pixels tall, your original title ends up looking like STAAAOOOO. The font I used ends up as STRRBOUNO, so I'd probably try a couple of others before settling on it for sure, but I think it's close enough that most people will get it.
I would still retool the description to explain who this girl is and why she's important, other than as a love interest. Otherwise, I'd advise you to commission a painting of Devon that could be standing next to her, with a transparent background, and put them both in the picture.
