This is a very confusing post. Alongside what other people have said in this thread I would simply recommend you read a beginning opening theory book to give you some context on something like e4 e5. A book like Starting Out: 1. e4 gives an overview on e4 and its responses and could maybe help you get a better understanding of the ideas behind both e5 and other first move responses, as well as a better understanding of what e4 is trying to accomplish and some plans beyond the first move.

Thanks so much for this post. I had similar reservations about the Grand Prix. Do you have any recommendations for alternatives? What do you think of the Starting Out 1.e4 book?
