Steelseries H Wireless are a bit on the pricy side but they are the best pair of headphones that I have ever owned. Compatible with everything: TV, PS4, XB1, PC, and AUX compatible with your cell phone, laptop, or anything else with a port. Got mine for $250 on Amazon last summer.

I'm sorry to hear that. Oof.
Sadly there aren't many great wireless gaming options out there right now. I'm actually using my SECOND pair of these:

INCREDIBLE headphones, with a meh mic. But I loved them so much I bought them twice. Twice now, the swivel for the cups broke because it's all held together by a thin shitty piece of plastic you can see it here: https://imgur.com/DozYBgp
Clearly I'm not the only one with this issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/steelseries/comments/4qxliw/steelseries_wireless_h_broken_plastic_joint/
SteelSeries needs to focus on improving both mic and build quality badly imo.
https://www.amazon.ca/SteelSeries-Premium-Multi-Platform-Wireless-Surround/dp/B00G6IJ5NI i have been using these for the past 8 years, loved them so much that i got a second pair when the first ones worn down. I don't think they make them any more but these ones look promising
I love the over the ear design for comfort, and honestly wireless is so convenient, as you can just get up and walk around to go the washroom or grab a coffee without constantly taking them off and putting them back. If you do go wireless route, just make sure it's a 2 battery system, so you will never have down time.

I like these. Hot swap battery, decent sound, really clear microphone

I have the Astro a50's but steel series h was the other ones I was looking at the time, http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Wireless-Gaming-Headset-Surround/dp/B00G6IJ5NI
I love my SteelSeries headphones. They sound great and the Mic is amazing. In fact, it's actually probably too good.
But, they are pricey so another surprisingly great option are the PS Gold Wireless. I had these before my Steelseries and my brother took them over, which is why I got the others to begin with.
I even bought another set for my son when he needed a pair...
Steelseries makes some great quality headsets and there tech support is phenomenal. I would check out the Steelseries H Wireless Headset.
Speaking of Steelseries: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00G6IJ5NI?ref_=gb1h_img_m-5_6982_93d43bd8&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB
do you even have a budget? if not id suggest this
So I'm new to the world of "audiophile" headphones. I've searched here but I'm having issues finding all the information I am looking for. I've read mad lust's and nameless's guide but all the info is a bit overwhelming as I am just learning about all of this and some of it is just hard to follow as a newbie. I got started on this as I was considering buying another set of gaming headsets but the one's I was looking at, Steelseries H Wireless Gaming Headset seemed very steep in price in comparison to high-end headphones. So I did some research and it appears everyone is against the gaming headset. Below is my background and what I am looking for:
Background: I am looking for headphones primarily for gaming. I don't need an attached mic as I already have an AKG P420 (love it btw). I play FPS and RPGs for the most part but dabble in all genres.
I currently have a pair of Razer BlackSharks for console and PC gaming, however, I am looking to upgrade. I like the blacksharks but I feel as if they are lacking in the sound department overall. I bought them for the mic at the time as it was much clearer than other headset mics I tested before buying the p420. I also have a pair of Bose QC15s, which I purchased for my work travel. I love these, they are incredibly comfortable, great at canceling noise and great for movies and music but they are slightly lacking in the bass department for gaming.
So here is where my questions come into play:
-What headphones do you recommend for FPS gaming? I do listen to music while gaming but my primary concern is game/chat audio. The placement of sound is very important to me as well. I want to be able to tell where footsteps are coming from. Which leads me to my next question.
- What do I need to simulate surround with a pair of good headphones? Is it software, hardware or a combination of the two? (Leads to next question)
- I know this depends on the headphones but do I need a DAC/Amplifier or a separate sound card? My current motherboard is a GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 which supports 7.1 surround. Will any of these items make a significant difference? Do I even need these considering I have a mobo with a card that supports 7.1?
- As I stream I would be concerned about background noise to a degree but my mic isn't too close to my face (maybe about 1ft away) so it may be a nonissue but I will ask anyway. How audible are the headphones to those not wearing them? Would it bleed through to the stream? As a reference I don't listen to my games/music very loud I hover around 33% of max volume on the windows volume mixer.
- How would a pair of studio headphones stack up against the QC15s for comparison purposes?
Some other info:
- I'd spend upwards of $300.
- They don't need to be noise canceling
- Comfort is also important as I will be wearing these for hours at a time.
Thanks for your help in advance!
Edit: To Summarize in proper format
Budget - Would like to stay under $300 overall.
Source - GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 but as stated above I am willing to plug into an amp or different sound card.
Requirements for Isolation - Home, pc gaming while streaming to twitch
Preferred Type of Headphone - full-sized or on-ear
Preferred tonal balance - Overall balanced but more bass than Bose QC15s
Past headphones - From above: I currently have a pair of Razer BlackSharks for console and PC gaming, however, I am looking to upgrade.
This is the one I bought in 2015. Its been great for me ever since!
https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Wireless-Gaming-Headset-Surround/dp/B00G6IJ5NI I have this and can confirm that it's glorious!
If you don't mind a $280 price tag SteelSeries H are incredible. They are very comfortable even after hours of use. The battery life is about 20 hours and you get 2. You can keep one inside the wireless transmitter and when the battery in the headset gets low you just swap them. It has a retractable mic and very easy to use controls.
I used to have the PS golds they are the best headset for under $100, I would definitely recommend these. They are comfortable and sound great, that being said one of the hinges on mine broke after about a year.
I have a Steelseries Wireless H headset that I can usually sound whore with but I haven't been able to do that in this game. Hopefully now I can
