Looking for a new set of headphones for my GF. She just wants something super comfy to wear for 4-5 hours a day as she games (about 80% of the time) and watches movies (about 20% of the time). Music is done via a separate speaker system so it is unlikely these will play much music that isn't in a movie/game.
- Budget: Trying to stay under $400 unless there is a very compelling reason to exceed slightly.
- Source: PC Motherboard AUX out or PC USB. Willing to get a DAC and/or AMP as part of the budget if that makes the most sense.
- Need for Isolation: None, although some would be fine.
- Headphones used in public: No, these will likely never leave the bedroom where her PC is.
- Headphone Type: Over Ear/Full Sized. Comfort is #1 priority here. IEMs are a no-go.
- Tone: Likely neutral, but really whatever gives the best experience for gaming (mostly MMOs and shooters) and movies.
- Past Headphones: Audio Technica M40x and Audio Technia M50x: Bother were OK sound wise but hurt her ears and the head around her ears after about 40min. SteelSeries Siberia v2: worse sound wise but more tolerable for her head, hurts ears a little after 1 hour or so.
- Music Type: As described above these are for gaming and movies 98% of the time. Music is on a separate system. But if these get used for music, it would mostly be classic rock, rock, classical, and metal.
- Improvements: I just want to find some very comfortable for her that won't hurt her head as she plays and watches movies (and that sound pretty decent while doing it).
Get yourself a nice headset with 3.5mm jacks for headphones and mic, then use a Y cable that plugs directly into your controller.
1) you don't need some stupid controller adapter.
2) you can use the headset as headphones outside of your xbox.
These ones are nice because the mic is retractable. I've had them for about 4 years and they've been awesome. I'm really picky about sound quality and it's hard to find a good gaming headset with actual bass to it. These have great all around sound. I went through like 5 sets before I settled on these.
Wherever you buy them make sure you can return them if you don't like them. Comfort and sound quality vary a lot in headsets.
Edit: I never did like the headsets that boasted 7.1 surround sound! or crap like that. It's impossible to get true 7.1 surround sound in only 2 speakers. They just never sounded good enough. Plus I'm so used to simple stereo sound in headphones that anything else just seems off. I have no problem telling exactly where someone is with the headset above. That being said, I'd be interested in trying out a "high quality + surround sound" headset with siege to see if there's any actually beneficial difference.
I am looking for some good quality headphones with a headband like the Steelseries Siberia V2 , with over ear, basically I just want those headphones with higher quality.
My Steel Series gaming headset cost 100$ CDN on sale. Great quality sound and build.
I use it for everything as my PC's are in the living area with the TV, so nice to have so the kids can watch whatever and I can do the same.

Yeah it's the SteelSeries Siberia v2. Has good quality audio. They're also very comfortable! Which is rare with headsets in my past experiences lmao
Link to the headset if interested- http://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Full-Size-Gaming-Headset/dp/B003N636VI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445715602&sr=8-1&keywords=steelseries+headset
If you reaaally want a headset i've heard that the SteelSeries Siberia v2 are pretty good but you'd be infinitely better off with a good pair of headphones and a modmic.
I use the Siberia v2 headset. The mic quality on them is extremely clear, had no problems with them since i purchased them (last October), picks up no background noise, clear and high quality audio and are very comfortable to have on (compared to other headsets I've had).
If you lift your budget to $50 i would highly recommend them.

Steelseries Siberia V2 Pick Your Color
You can alternatively use any 3.5mm stereo headset with the adapter if you choose as long as it has a seperate mic and headphone jack. You can use this setup with a PS4 or any Android or iPhone if you wish.
Budget - $50.00-$100.00 max ($50-$80 preferably)
Primairy use: Gaming on my PC sometimes listening to music (not a priority) while I'm working.
Source - Desktop PC
Preferred Type of Headphone - On/Over-ears
Preferred tonal balance - Honestly no clue, I'm new to all these terms.
Past headphones - I've been using a pair of TB X12's for the past two years since my last pair of TB's broke down a while back. The left speaker I think died out on me last night so I'm going to check them again when I get home (my mobo has been having problems lately so it could be that instead), but I think it's likely dead considering I've had this same issue with two of TB's previous sets I owned.
Preferred Music - Mostly a lot of Hip-Hop and rock, and sometimes some EDM.
Location - Michigan-US
I was already eyeing a pair of Senheiser HD558's since my local Best Buy is selling them for $100; I was also considering getting a pair of SteelSeries Siberia's since I have always heard good things about those headsets and they're more closer in the price range I was looking for. I'm not in a hurry, but I would like to get the new pair within the next week. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
All of these are pretty good options below your price range (all of those cost significantly more when they first came out, those are pretty good sale prices). Going up to $100-130 isn't going to make a big difference. The biggest jump in quality will be at the $150-225 range where you have options like the Astro A40 and the Sennheiser PC350, PC363D, G4ME ONE, and G4ME ZERO.

I have these and I love them. They sound great.
SteelSeries Siberia V2, in orange. I love 'em.
I would get these Siberia v2. With one of the adapter cables so it can be used with your chat adapter. Super good head set on close out since they are the old model.
I had one of these for 8 months. It eventually broke because the solder near the volume control was falling apart, which will happen if you play around with it excessively. I sent it back and got the 5Hv2 but with standard headphone plugs. I'm currently using it and had it since February. I doubt you'd want to get it since the 5hv2 isn't available on SteelSeries' site anymore, and I don't know if the warranty would still apply if its sold by a third party.
A lot of my friends have and will vouch for the Siberia, which also roughly falls within your price range, however, the Siberia doesn't have braided cables.
