In the beginning of the series, Steven is goofy, naive. \r\n\r\nBut as he matures, so does the show. He realizes the Crystal Gems still aren't over the loss of Steven's mother. There has been a history of war and slaughter that we're just beginning to see. And the forces the Crystal Gems defeated five thousand years ago are back, more powerful and advanced than ever.\r\n\r\nThink about this; Rebecca Sugar wrote the episodes of Adventure Time about the relationship between the Ice King and Marceline, some of the most emotional episodes of the series. Imagine a whole show of that. That's Steven Universe.\r\n\r\nPretty much every episode is like an emotional punch to the gut, especially the later ones.
