A barrier might help restrict the airborne micro droplets that carry the virus from getting to you in the front quite so easily but do not think it will totally protect you. Getting an airtight seal is not going to happen.
If you or anyone you live with has health issues (or age) that puts them in a higher risk category, the risk will be too high. Find a way not to drive.
