I did! I'm in the book that followed Webb's freshman year.
Um.. I like them! I'm still in touch with Willis. He's a super good guy. Crazy natural talent, super focused and driven. Really nice, friendly guy.
Webb I only knew for the one year at Michigan. I was at cross country camp with him and the workouts he was laying down were just insane. I was a half miler, but... man, he just left everyone else in the dust. But he ended up getting injured and having a subpar season. I think the blamed the coaching or whatever so left after a year. I think he's probably kind of a head case. That followed him his whole career. Such huge success in high school and so many expectations and such insane ability, but could never really seem to keep it together to win at the highest level. He was certainly a nice enough guy, but kinda was on his own program. I saw him a while ago at a race and he reminded me how I helped him with his physics homework, but I had no memory of that until he mentioned it!
I would always read "Running with the Buffaloes" during xc season and then read "Sub 4" heading into track season during high school and college. They are both by Chris Lear and both written in the same style. Awesome books to keep you motivated, especially when you read about some of the workouts and times those guys would run!
