Currently my home gym setup is based pretty much entirely off of this thin threaded barbell, kinda like this https://www.amazon.com/Sunny-Threaded-Chrome-Barbell-60-Inch/dp/B004EFYPBC. My bench/squat rack and the weights all rely on the size of this kinda shitty 10 lb or so bar that starts bending around 220 or so. It was ok when I was doing 220 for deadlift and squats but now I'm getting close to 300 for deadlift and I'm pretty sure the amount it's bending isn't very safe. I really don't want to have to get a legit barbell considering that it'd mean I'd have to replace pretty much everything I have right now, but if there really aren't any other options I'll suck it up and start going to my local gym or something cause I'm still in high school and there's no way I'm shelling out that much money.
You've got the barbell set linked twice, I think.
The barbell set doesn't have a solid steel bar, it's a hollow bar which won't hold more weight than the set comes with. You might save money in the long run if you get a solid steel bar and a few metal plates- then you can buy more plates as you need them instead of starting from scratch. BAR like this
You don't have to use Olympic bars though? I've started training my nephew (under 35kg at 15 years old) and I've been having to use one of these sort of bars to get to weights he can lift at the moment
Hi guys, I have an idea about starting to lift at home with a really tight budget, I would like to ask for some advice.
I want to do the 5x5 stronglifts program, because it fits me perfectly, and I just want to get in good shape, besides right now I only want to lose weight (but keeping the few muscle I have).
I have thought, for now, to get the bar, 2 7.5 pound plates and 2 10 pound plates.
I need to pass on the bench for now, they cost $40 at Amazon, maybe in the first two months I'll have to improvise, but It doesn't worry me because 4 of the 5 exercises are standing up.
What I think I'll definitely need to get is a mat so the plates don't touch the floor..right?
I'll be really thankful if some of you guys could help me out.
The brand plates are CAP Barbell and the bar is this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EFYPBC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER Oh, and the two thingies so the plates don't move, that costs $4.99, so not that big of a deal.
I wanna do starting strength/strong lift? is all I need a barbell bench and some weights for the barbell? Do you recommend this barbell?
I do bodyweight squats at home and was looking to add some weight to my squats. I'm fairly skinny so wasn't gonna add a lot of weight to it just some so I'm not doing only bodyweight. Would this barbell off amazon suffice? https://www.amazon.com/Sunny-Threaded-Chrome-Barbell-60-Inch/dp/B004EFYPBC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1LIGA2I2UQYTP&keywords=barbell&qid=1640396211&sprefix=barbel%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-1
I was hoping not to spend too much on it but notice people said not to cheap out on it but for my use would it be enough? Thanks!
Titan has improved over time. However many old time buyers are leery and will wait for reviews or will want to see it upfront themselves ( i.e. at a gym or at a friends home gym, etc)
https://www.titan.fitness/strength/barbells/specialty/axle-barbells/AXLEBAR.html
If it was me, I'd buy an Axle bar and then use that to bridge myself over for a while where I could spend some time surfing the various marketplaces ( i.e. Craigslist, FB, Offer Up, etc etc) to see if I could find a good deal.
Then when you finally find a good solid Olympic barbell, your Axle still has use as a specialty type bar.
An Axle bar does have some limitations and your hand size might be a factor. But it's hard to beat the price.
I wouldn't buy a 5 foot bar, but that's just me. If you absolutely must have a 5 foot bar, at that point, you might be better off with a one inch bar.
