Hey it’s not clear to me from your post what is unsafe about the bed. Assuming the bed is hard enough for the age of your kid and the only remaining concern is falling off ... you can push the bed up against the wall on 2 sides if that is possible. If you have one side up against the will you can consider sleeping sideways and put the kid between the wall and you. Also you can make bumpers on the side with rolling up blankets and sticking them under the mattress pad. Buying a bumper works well for traveling too like this. Hope they has helped!
