Our DM uses tiles from 3 of those boardgames a lot. I started making a set of interlinking tiles with walls too, as I like things that block line of sight to block real life line of sight. I think we've come to realize that while prettier, it's far more limiting than it's worth.
The smaller 24X30 mats with wet wipe markers and a ton of 1" wooden craft blocks are much better. We also have a giant 32x46 mat for outdoor battles. We've been using these blocks from amazon. I bought 2 sets of them, but so far we've only ever used the one set.
I used these wood blocks with some acryllic paint I had, then glued it all up with gorilla glue. This video by frederic chen helped me out a ton!!
I guess we'll see haha. It is wood, got it from here
thanks!! I used these wood blocks from amazon with some acryllic paint and gorilla glue to stick it all together.
Here are the links to the blocks and the glue I used for this!! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072VZFYFC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Amazon obviously.
I bought 2x120 sets of 1 inch blocks. We only ever opened and needed the one set though.
We also have 1x20 set of 2 inch blocks. Those tend to not get used as much. However I suspect if we had more, we would use them more. Maybe not, which is why I haven't bought more.
I also keep looking at assorted blocks like this, this or this.
We also have a bunch of small colored foam blocks that get used for all kinds of stuff. The green ones are usually bushes to hide behind and the blue water areas.
We also use a pretty good sized battle mat. Bigger really is better here. The small normal play mats are fine for indoors combat, but for outside stuff you really need a giant area.
I can't recommend anything for drawing on it though. The wet erase pens we use sometimes permanently mark it. It's not a huge deal as we use blocks a lot more than drawing anything. If we were satisfied with a flat map, we would go back to using a TV and foundry / roll20 for our map needs. So if anyone has a good suggestion for pens, I'm all ears.
