The tab thing is that I had it open before posting this question and is three tabs away from the tab my question is in. It's helpful for finding stuff you definitely should not be buying.
But it doesn't go into the practical nitty-gritty of how regulators address the issue, how counterfeits can last on the market for a while (bought this one carelessly in oct 2020 for example. Still there for sale), what are the challenges in getting them removed, stuff like that. Which is what my question is about. The "how" of dealing with these products. They obviously have rules against them.
My dog has absolutely lethal farts, which gave me occasion to discover that these kn95 masks actually do block them! He ripped one on us in the car one afternoon while we were in a drive-thru; I had on a mask to interact with the person at the window, my dog dropped ass on the car, I didn't notice behind my mask, and my poor unmasked husband got thoroughly crop-dusted because the windows were locked to keep the dog from accidentally rolling them down.
KN95 is the Chinese equivalent of N95 and the CDC has tested masks from a number of major suppliers (I looked into it a while back). These are the ones I buy, the CDC confirmed their effectiveness with a proper seal. But I’m all but a recluse so I use masks infrequently.
I got mine on Amazon several months ago so I'd imagine selection is only better. Have also found locally at Ace Hardware and such. I bought these ones most recently and their filter efficiency is roughly the same as 3M branded, though I had to wait until I received them to find them on the CDC list.
Unless you're trying to stay away from Amazon. Don't live in the area anymore, but Ace Hardware always has a good stash.
My local supermarket in New Jersey sells them. But if yours don't, you can buy as much as KN95 mask you want from Amazon, it's basically same as N95.
or if you are willing to wait a bit, you can buy cheaper direct mail from China on aliexpress.com.
I've said this before--and gotten chewed out for supporting the narrative that mail in voting isn't safe. But USPS SUCKS in my metro, and that was before Trump started dismantling it.

I understand it's still a risk. I know there are drop-off ballot boxes that bypass USPS. Just putting my thoughts out there. Open to debate.
you can't get real 3M of course, there's just lots of sketchy sellers claiming their KN95 on on the FDA "acceptable" list which is BS
this is the only 5-ply I've seen that enough people say is not totally fake, the 3-ply aren't serious enough, more layers = more surface area
plus they are not some store that opened last month, I'd only buy from someone who existed before last year

I don't think doctors do this, so I wouldn't say it is a necessary step. You can get a 10 pack of plastic visors that can be cleaned for relatively cheap. Double masking is also a good idea, or investing in an N95 pack. Doctors have been putting a disposable mask over their N95 to keep the N95 cleaner. The majority of "germs" are on the top layer of the outside of the mask as they are carried in droplets too large to enter through the mask. If they are already on your face/in your mouth no amount of sanitizing is going to help.
Sanitize your hands, place your mask in a bag that can be seal and place a new mask on. Eating in your car is a decent idea.

Yeah, I might layer a few cloth masks. I was thinking about getting some KN95 masks but it's hard to know if they're legit
