Yeah that’s not safe. Here’s a link to the one I bought:
I was trying to save money, so I did not buy any supports. It worked for me. It is permanently portrait mode. But you can look into the Amazon link. That will provide the ability to easy rotation. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01LH0KVP0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_0rz2DbK5329M2
I have no problems waking up the MacBook. The monitor arm I used is from amazon:

At the moment I'm using two of these. I have them mounted pointing towards the floor. Screwed a piece of thin pine to the vesa mount, then bolted my two T16k's to the pine.
Since the arms bend horizontally and the joints can be tightened, it's pretty sturdy. I did have to put some tape around the pipe for the pole arm to fit tighter. Taking the inner plastic piece out of the arms pole-hole to stop the free movement from side to side.
All in all it does what I need it to do. I can adjust it how I want it without hassle. The mount section has its own rotation and tilt as well.
Sorry for the delay! Been quite a busy day today. I use the one I've linked below. It's for 27" and I bought it when I was using 27" but it's rated for 10kg and the monitor is less than that. So I am hoping that it'll be fine. Seems to be fairly sturdy and well built. I only use single arm mounts for screens this large. I am skeptical about putting over £1000 on one arm, hence splitting over two!

Hello, making your own is not very hard.
I bought this from amazon...
Monitor arm (chose this since it tilts and you can adjust the angle):

Rubber (QTY 6):

You can probably find one cheaper out there.
Bought a plywood from Home Depot and put them all together pretty easily. The clamp on the monitor arm perfectly fits on my table. When I attach it at the corner of my table, I can adjust it forward/backwards and the angle.
Thank you. I didn't wanna see arms all over the place and my desk is too small for a side-by-side. A short Suptek single mount and a tall Suptek single mount. The iPad is on an Arkon mount.
What I have set up is two monitor desk mounts + the vesa mounts. Having them pointing down towards the floor. Attaching a piece of wood to the vesa mount itself, then drill/screw the joystick base onto the piece of wood. Depending on what your table is made out of, you can use some wood or metal plates to sandwich in-between the table and the pole mounts. So if you tighten it down your table won't get screwed up. But it doesn't have to be hulked on or anything.
This would allow you to remove both the joysticks and also the mounting system. I only have them hand tightened with some bolts and it does what I need it to do. With the monitor arms I can swing them, bring them closer or further away and also adjust the height of them as well. Along with the vesa mount it can tilt and rotate.
I would recommend using some tape to thicken the pole where you want the arm to be. Giving it a bit more surface to clamp onto, so that it doesn't swing as much. You'll also need to get 2 small bolts for each joystick. Best is to bring it to a hardware store and get the correct thread size, plus a drill bit that fits as well.
Monitor Desk Mount/Vesa. Those are the ones I got, if you were curious. I can definitely say I'm happy with how versatile they are. I did buy better bolts for some of the pressure points to offer it more stability. Just went to a local hardware store with the arms/vesa and joystick.
If you open the bottom base of the joystick you can see they have two stacks of three small metal plates to act as a weight. There isn't a lot of room in there but I'm sure you could also take the ones in there and replace them with heavier ones as well. Though not too sure how that will end up, doubt it would offer the resistance you want. Or you could grab two round metal plates, half an inch thick, 12inch round or so. Then drill/bolt the joysticks to those. Then get some adhesive rubber and slap it on the bottom of the metal.

Let me get a link... They were basically the cheapest ones I could find from Amazon. Here
