Here’s the one I use on my 2010: SWAGMAN Chinook Bike Rack
I can put it on/remove it by myself in just a couple minutes. Has key locks for everything, and tilts up when not using it, or back with bikes on it to access the hatch. Owner it for a couple years, it’s seen regular use and I’ve had zero issues.
I feel personally attacked! Picked up this guy for $150 on sale. I actually get some compliments on it and it's been holding up great. I honestly haven't thought about replacing it at all after the first year. The reason I went with it is because a co-workers been using a similar one from then for several years without issue
What type are you looking for? Roof rack? Trunk rack? Or hitch rack?
If it's the hitch rack, I got a (Swagman Chinook platform rack for $155)[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMTTIPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_V2Y6FbN7T3E0V?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) on sale. It's dropped to that price q couple times since I bought it.
Put it in the back of my SUV for awhile, than ordered this platform rack. It went on sale for $155 and swooped it up. My co-worker has had it for years without issue, so figured it was good enough for me.
Hello fellow Austinite. I also have a shuttle bus and have a heavy electric bike. I installed a rear hitch and got this carrier. I have fenders so I needed something that didn't go over the wheels.
It's not as high quality or stable as the brand names it cloned but it's decent value.
I thought about using a front hitch receiver but am worried about damage as Huffy mentioned. Instead I'm going to build a custom rear platform that bolts up to the rear bumper mount. It'll carry my motorcycle, bike, and have some storage.
I wouldn't use a strap on carrier, especially with heavier bikes. They're not designed to be used on a vehicle that way and most are for lighter bikes.
Installing a hitch receiver isn't that hard. If all you want to do is carry bikes you can get a light duty one for around $100.
At the wheel. I have this one:
The v has been great so far, a very versatile car.

Similar situation as yourself and I was considering this model for us.
