Personally if hiking over rocky area I like more ankle protection in case you slip. You wont eff up your ankle. I use these for most of my hiking. They are deceptively light and more comfortable than most shoes I have. I have had these for 3 years and are holding up very well.
These are what I use. They are incredibly light, have great support and have nice aggressive tread. I like the high support because its secure and a twisted ankle can be very dangerous when you are several miles away.
The best advise, no matter what you use, break them in before you go hiking. Dont take brand new boots/shoes hiking.
