I have a history book called "Tales of Old Florida". The link is for Amazon. It's stories from 100 years ago from people who came to be sportsmen. Hunting, fishing, touring around. I found it fun to read.
This is not the book, and probably not helpful, but it looks very similar to the book “tales of old Florida” which has a lighthouse on the cover.

Okay, I give up.
The city of Melbourne conspired with Palm Bay to dump 1 gazillion gallons of human feces imported from Miami into our river and are hiding it behind the old Shooters Restaurant. Dolphins will from here on out have 3 eyes and the crabs will cause spontaneous combustion if you eat them.
I really want a clean IRL. I live on/in it. I picked up this book at Sams Club a few years ago and highly recommend it. It consists of articles from a bunch of magazines and books dating back into the mid 1800's that talk about Florida. 100 years ago, the Indians could almost walk across the backs of redfish to get across the IRL and beach fishermen would have to run into the surf to avoid the black bears trying to steal their catch. Those are the days I long for and many of those stores are in this book (Not an affiliate link).
The story about the soldiers in the Pensacola area partnering with a local negro (the stories words, not mine) and canoeing inland to fish is just wonderful and chilling. The image it evokes is mesmerizing.
Now, stop shitting in our river.
