Talking to Strangers - Malcolm Gladwell.
I know he as an author and thinker might be a little overexposed BUT this was a great book. A friend of mine finished it, called me and said "I am going to buy this for you. I need you to read it." I was glad that I did.
Unfortunately these things can happen. It takes time to get to know someone. Not much consideration was likely given in terms of quality time, energy, etc. Did you talk about upbringing, passions, future plans, etc or was it all superficial?

Some of these flakers/ghosters are super easy to spot right away in their profiles or first few words (not that you should unmatch immediately but take note of red flags). Many people are either too trusting, lack self-awareness or let attraction get in the way of logic. TL;DR: this only works in the extreme neighborhoods with the highest crime rates. However, in many neighborhoods with crime where patrols were increased, residents felt better but there was actually no increase at all.
Also, this take ignores the fact that white folk would literally ban African Americans from entering schools and businesses into the 60's, prevent them from moving to nicer neighborhoods, and sometimes even riot en masse when African Americans got jobs and houses near places like U. Chicago. You can't just end segregation and call it "Even Stephen" and expect crime and poverty to go away.
It was released in September. Here's the amazon link, maybe you got routed to a different version or something
