there are transparent acrylic paints that have been developed for just such purposes.
to me it looks like tamiya clear red x-27
For the "blood" I used this clear gloss red.

Then i just used a mixture of metallic blue, black, and clear yellow for the wash.
So tamiya makes a wonderful range of clear acrylic colors TAMIYA USA TAM81027 Acrylic X27 Gloss Clear Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TT856HG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_FSW918NGE73EZ4EY1R00?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
These will create extremely bright surfaces if painted over metallics. With an almost gem like effect.
It looks like this, I was even worried that it's too bright on the snow.
Here's the paint I used for blood effect.
It's pretty straightforward to use, just apply it with sponge or old brush and it works wonders. :)
This can also be done by taking any silver metallic (boltgun metal/leadbelcher/etc) and using Tamiya Clear Red. It can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acrylic-Gloss-Clear-TAM81027/dp/B00TT856HG
I painted Khador jacks using this over boltgun metal and they came out looking cool similar to this but with less depth. Only downside is the models absolutely must dry in a humidity and dust free place to else it will be sadness. Also it will take much much longer than you think to dry. Lastly whatever brush you use is now your Tamiya Clear Red application brush forever. So don't use a nice one.
They won't have it, I've tried. You'll have to go to a hobby store for like model trains and cars and RC stuff, because it's really more for those hobbies. I wouldn't even bother hitting up a wargame/boardgame store, I've never seen any carry Tamiya. It's the only paint from their line I own. Or just get it off amazon https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acrylic-Gloss-Clear-TAM81027/dp/B00TT856HG it's worth the money because you get a big pot of it.
They look awesome. But I think I know whats missing. The reds are just orange. Get some Tamiya X27 Gloss Red. It makes very vivid blood effects. I think adding that in places would really bump up the contrast.

So is the issue with it not fitting the width or is it the height. I say this because the difference between the 2016 and 2032 is the height, the 16 denotes that it is 1.6mm vs a 2032 which is 3.2mm. A standard base has just around ~2mm base inside height, so the 2016 should work. The only time they don't work is when the base has a nub or something inside that increases the height, which you may have to sand down. All 2016 and 2032 are standard sizes as well, so any brand will end up being the same size. Another option for you is the cr1620. now this is a tad taller but width-wise is smaller, depending on your issue.
For what I did, I used a clear rod with a red led. If you are trying to go red acrylic, just be aware that light may not pass through it as well, if that is what you are trying to do. For all the smaller sizes, you can really only find clear rods; which I wonder if they just paint the clear rods red? So if you do want to make it a red rod, I would suggest using a clear rod and painting over it with a semitransparent paint. Something like this should work, https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Acrylic-X27-Gloss-Clear/dp/B00TT856HG/ref=sr_1_2.
This is the best blood paint I have ever found:

I think I've heard of people also using Vallejo Transparent Red or Tamiya X27 Clear Gloss Red for similar things, if you can find those more easily!
Alternatively, if you're using it over a silver, a tiny bit of Contrast Paint (Blood Angels for red) can also do the trick! It's what I've been doing lately on eye lenses.
Tamiya Clear Gloss Red. Just use some CitriStrip or acetone to take out the old paint first.
