Hate to recommend amazon, but shockingly they’re fairly cheap from here. These aren’t going to be no-stress mark one-cut cleans it all nippers, but they’re sharp and accurate and can easily clip a nub for sanding.
I use the Tamiya Sharp Pointed ones and they’re amazing! I have done more than 30 kits with them and still no sign of dullness. It doesn’t require any hard pressure and it’s spring assisted so it gets the job done with ease. I highly recommend them, there is only one left in stock so I’d hurry or check another website or local.
Bandai's model kits are awesome. Honestly, I've only done their Star Wars kits, but my friend collects the Gundam kits and he says that they are super similar.
Get a set of side cutters and maybe an Xacto Knife and you'll pretty much have everything you need to assemble the kits out of the box. They take some practice to get the form down while making sure that there aren't any snags or broken pieces, but once you get it, it becomes a breeze.
Honestly, these sets are addicting for me. They're harder than Lego but still easy enough to throw together in an hour or so.
I would say the hardest part of the kits are when you get sets with extremely small pieces. I've had to use glue a couple times just to make sure some parts stayed in place.
Building alone isn't hard, however, the cleaner you want it to look, the more work you need to put in - this is where all the tools come in.
You can always start out with a simpler kit, like a High Grade (HG), with just a pair of side cutter to cut pieces out. No need to get into sanding and all that jazz yet.
Get comfortable with the very basic before you move on to more advance techniques.
Don't try to run before you learn how to walk.
I've been looking at http://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter/dp/B000J47Z4G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463781231&sr=8-1&keywords=tamiya+nipper
but it costs $10 more than an RG and $10 less than an MG... feels so weird buying such an expensive nipper
I know these are about $10 more expensive, but the Tamiya Sharp-Pointed cutters are probably my most favorite tool I own. Makes the xuron look like clunky kitchen shears! They are sharp enough that they don't crush the plastic and the blades are small enough to get into tiny spaces on a runner.

i got the ones you mentioned when they released it in July for 22$ , they are pretty sweet . can cute really close to the part without damaging it then its just little sanding and u r done ------------Edit : u can find i think an older model but just as good here
> Tamiya's 74093
Those tamiyas are... pretty bad actually. They are mid level cutters on par to Xuron 410s, if not lower.
For good quality cutters at an affordable price the Tamiya 74035 are probably the best you can buy here.
http://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter/dp/B000J47Z4G
We know that that the SPN-120s are better than the 74035 (at 2-3x the price) but I would be interested if anyone could review the 74305 vs the cheaper PN-120s
It looks legit and the reason why the shipping is so low is because the actual shipping price is already calculated inside the buying price of the cutters. I can buy the same from Amazon with free delivery for the same price, means you are paying the same price for shipping as if they were to ship to the most furthest point of the world. Even if you lived 2 doors down from the shop.
Wee trick folks use gain extra profit when short travels and to cover themselves on long travels.
To be honest legit or not your just as well buying elsewhere.
PS here is the Amazon listing http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter-Plastic/dp/B000J47Z4G if anything goes wrong you can ask Amazont to sort it and they will refund you and they will chase the supplier for the money. Meaning your fine and safe.
If you don't want to spend as much for a godhand the 74035 is a good alternative. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J47Z4G/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=14P900L8S48RN&coliid=I27ZIICNPDUDR3
I use a 10 dollar nipper from a tamiya basic kit and second cut with a godhand and it saves so much time.
Hobby knife I like this one and the curved blades it comes with for nub and parting line cleanup, but you can find cheaper handles and blades if you would rather.
Sanding sticks this is simply one of many available options...
You might be falling a little short, bu trust me if you can come up with about 10 dollars more... these'll change your life:
Shows a comparison, using the same piece, of the cheap Amazon Platos and the God Hand. I have the Tamiya's that are clearly inspired by the God Hand, wondering if its worth the upgrade.
My nippers:

https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter/dp/B000J47Z4G these ones right here. Served me well for years! I still use them for the occasional clear parts.
If you can spare $4 more, these tamiya ones are pretty good. Tamiya Sharp Pointed Side Cutter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J47Z4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_lcPuAbBHDS66J

Looking to build my first ever Gunpla and am currently shopping for nippers. I came across this and seems to be a good brand:
https://smile.amazon.com/Tamiya-Sharp-Pointed-Side-Cutter/dp/B000J47Z4G/
It then recommends that there is a newer version of the item:
https://smile.amazon.com/Tamiya-74035-Sharp-Pointed-Cutter/dp/B0131XZ92G/ref=dp_ob_title_def
So, what's the difference and which one should I get? Thanks.
EDIT: I also see this one:
https://smile.amazon.com/God-Hand-SPN-120-Ultimate-Nipper/dp/B00T5IH8PI/
Read that God Hand is supposedly better and is the "best". I have the funds for it, but just wondering if it's really worth $20 more. Also, how long should I expect the three of these to last? As in, how many kits can they go thru until they get worn down? Thanks.
Just copy and pasting something I wrote before.
"Some notable brands for cutters are (listed from price ascending) Xuron($10-$20), Tamiya($25-$30), Gundam Planet($35), and then Godhand($55-$??). (There might be others, but I have found these to be the most popular.)
Right now I have Gundam Planet nippers. They are the best nippers I have had so far, but I have only owned one other pair so dont take my word to heart. What ever you do don't go for a $5 pair not worth it at all. I did that and I spent more time fixing the mistakes those clippers did to my model.
Personal opinion get a pair of Tamiya Sharp Pointed Side Cutters or Gundam Planet Nippers. Here is a comparison between the two. In all honesty though I have no been able to replicate that slow cut with my GP nippers. Another point is I have been able to get pretty close if you scratch the white part with your finger nail it almost looks like the slow cut photo."
I want to upgrade from my Xuron 410.
or
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0131XZ92G/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
or is there something better
God Hands are the best nippers available, but they come with a proportionate price tag. With 40 USD, popular opinion would be for Tamiya Sharp Pointed Nippers or my personal choice Tsunoda edge nippers.
There are plenty of alternatives, take a look around here.
I use these and they work just fine. You'll still need to follow rules like not cutting near the piece and then sand the nub down.
I don't really know what Micro Set is
>I got this in at a good deal an I think I understand why it was so cheap
FYI This comes off as being very pretentious
I took a look at the runners http://www.dalong.net/review/hg/rg09/rg09_i.htm and it looks like a regular RG kit
What parts are you complaining about ?
Heres some advice
1) Make sure you are cutting the parts correctly. I've seen a lot of people complain about kits having crappy joints only for them to find out later that they put it together wrong
2) Get better tools. If you are having a hard time with nubs I would recommed getitng better side cutters. These Tamiya side cutters let you get right next to the part. Best cutters money can buy.
3) These are 1/144 RG kits, you have to remember that they are going to have small multi-colored parts, it comes with the territory
Ugh come on /r/gunpla you guys are always recommending crappy side cutters
5-10 dollar side cutters all suck. yes they get the work done but they leave stress marks, leave larger nubs and overall make building gunpla harder/more annoying than it should be.
Stop wasting money on cheapo side cutters and get yourself a pair of high quality side cutters.
These are the best money can buy
Great idea but
I'm sorry to say but you are comparing mediocre side cutters to decent side cutters.
Without including what many consider the best side cutters money can buy your review is incomplete. You say its better to buy cheap side cutters, well that's probably because you have never used EXCELLENT side cutters before.
The sharp pointed side cutters are $30 but are exponentially better than anything on your list. I see you posted a picture of a real grade, the tamiya sharp pointed side cutters are probably the only cutters I know that are sharp/small enough to cut the small connecting plastic that holds a lot of the MS-Joint parts together (like the index finger and the rest of the fingers)
I have a proposal, Buy the Tamiya sharp pointed side cutters and add it to your comparison list and if they are no the best cutters you have ever tried, I will personally send you $30 in PayPal funds.
nooo, those are mediocre level cutters !
Cancel them if you can
Get these !
Trust me they are on a completely different level. Yes they seem expensive but you only have to buy them ONE TIME. Save up for them if you have to, they are worth it.
get a hobby knife that has rubber on it, way more comfortalbe to hold. X-acto and olfa both make good models with good blades
for sprue cutters get the Tamiya sharp pointed cutters. Yes they are expensive but worth their weight in gold
People use some real crappy side cutters in this subreddit.
The best advice I can give you is to buy QUALITY side cutters.
They are well worth the price. I can use the side cutters to get a nib that is practically flat with the piece, that leaves ZERO stress marks around the nub, and then I can clean the rest off with an X-acto blade. With this method you don't even need to sand anymore.
Trust me buy those side cutters. It will give you better results and make building Gunpla faster and more enjoyable.
That is a scalpel.. no don't use that. Those blades are really sharp but actually get dull very quickly, you want to buy a HOBBY knife.
Don't buy crappy side cutters. Buy quality cutters ONCE and you'll never have to worry about it again
They will give you better results, smaller nibs, and it will make building gunpla faster and more enjoyable.
you don't really need sandpaper if you have good tools to begin with
bare minimum
1) Xacto blade (recommend any of the ones that have rubber like the x2000 plus at least 2 new blades for each kit you build
2) Side cutters: Get the Tamiya Sharp sided cutters They are expensive but worth ever penny, especially if you plan on building more than one kit
3) Gundam Markers: Get a fine tipped black and a fine tipped grey. These will work for most colors
After that its whatever you think you might need
If you are going to get the RG Freedom (absolutely awesome kit) you should also consider
1)Any clear blue paint ( you'll need it for the sensors)
2) Action base 2 (highly recommend since this kit was made to be airborne)
