If your laptop is overheating, might want to buy a laptop cooling fan to put under it. I have this one and it's been helpful for my little old compy that gets super warm
We use this in bed/couch.
https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C/
It doesn’t appear to help much in cooling the laptop but it does allow for better ventilation versus thighs/clothing/beddings, prevents your thighs from getting burned and is fairly comfy to use.
The Legion has rear facing exhaust.
Most gaming laptops don’t do well on just your lap, though. Your thighs would be blocking most of the air intake. Consider using a cooling pad so you don’t burn your legs.
We use this and it works quite well and the Neoprene is soft and comfy (great if you’re just wearing shorts).

Very nice specs. I would recommend using a laptop pad with it, your computer may have a tendency to get hot. The one linked will fit. It's less about the fan cooling down the laptop and more about allowing fresh air to more easily enter the intake vents on the bottom of the laptop. I personally never use the fan. Nor would I recommend doing so with this product, as you see in the reviews the fan itself is poorly made.

I've used one of these for years. I don't use the fan in it, just keeps any laptop elevated using it on your lap, on the sofa or in bed.

Just using it on my lap works fine I have an adjustable bed so i keep myself at an inclined position permanently, dont even need a pillow in this position but it still helps
I did buy this though cause the laptop was getting warm https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NU5O9C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works really well, i dont use the fan though
For some reason using the touchpad has never hurt me, i should mention i have the laptops with no #pad as that makes the keyboard non centered and thus it felt awkward using it so i avoid them entirely now
I was having trackpad issues where it would freeze/ lag and also right click issues where the entire touch pad would be right click sometimes
So far those issues are gone with the fresh clean install
I would say that dell power manager is needed as my game would lag when in optimized mode and when i put it to performance mode it worked better, although i dont have it installed right now so i will try playing the game and check how it works
After the clean install the 1517 color profile on the 9710 was gone, it appeared after i installed the Dolby Vision Panel Driver, i still did not install premier color app
I actually use mine on my lap and this pad works really well

If I may suggest, this: Targus Portable Lightweight Chill Mat Lap with Dual Fans Ventilation Prevents Overheating, LED USB Port, Cooling Pad for Laptop, Black/Gray (AWE55US) Black with Gray https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_CP6TDZHSAM9PHNW97JYD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Is what I use to game on my laptop when I'm a passenger on a long trip. (With a 400w inverter.) Nope to those who tell you not to use your laptop on your lap that that is the intended purpose of this cooling stand. This is normally with a gamepad. If you don't have a lot of space a TV tray and a mouse pad works well in a pinch.
Hello to answer your question , yes . Most gaming laptops ( especiall the legion series) have especially good cooling . They also hsve fan profiles for configuring how much you eantbthe fans to blow, thus allowing you to tune the heat while under heavy load. This does come at the cost of audible fan noise but it is very easy to find a medium and acceptable range that gives you good thermals.
On the topic of laptop pads , there are ALOT. Since you want to use it on your lap, I would recommend this one:

Which is also sold at some bestbuys . It has a soft bottom so it makes it alot more comfortable to use on your lap as compared to fully plastic or metallic ones.
it could be a lot of things. Balanced power might be chugging, especially if windows dips into power saving mode - does it work better if it's on performance mode? Could potentially be a throttling problem with high temps causing your chip to run slower - you could try running it on a laptop cooler or even strapping a 150mm case fan to the hot spots to see if that helps, could potentially be an issue with the venting not being sufficient, too. You could try blowing out whatever vents you can find with compressed air and see if that helps. Could be a lot of other things too. Driver issues don't strike me as likely but it could be something to do with that.
Sorry you're having such a pain with it, it'd be nice if megacorps would at least deliver a decent product from the base up without cutting corners but cheap is the flavor of the 21st century mass production line. I hope you can figure it out, but maybe in the meantime something like this might help things be a little less frustrating, if not a little more cumbersome.
This is what I got for my XPS 15 9500. I rarely plug it in, but it allows me to lounge on the couch while allowing plenty of airflow underneath the machine.
The Targus seems pretty good for a resting cooling pad with a usb hub Targus Portable Lightweight Chill Mat Lap with Dual Fans Ventilation Prevents Overheating, LED USB Port, Cooling Pad for Laptop, Black/Gray (AWE55US) Black with Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3RCH1NKG2QBM8KZZFYZV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is the one I use, it’s nothing special and it’s a bit loud when running but i think it looks nice: https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=targus%2Bcooling%2Bpad&qid=1614208497&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExSjUxSFhIQjUxREZXJmVuY3J5cHRl...
My daughter insisted on one. So I gave her my Surface Pro 5 to take along so she had a note taking laptop with a superior pen implementation.
One thing about the XPS 17, you need a notebook cooler if you’re putting it in your lap, or at least something hard so it keeps you from frying and enables the air intake to keep the PC cool.
Chill pad for XPS 17–great design.

> so it's leading me to believe that the GPU performance is being hindered by possibly the temperature
If that is indeed the case, you're not going to be able to stop it (and if you do find a way, you're likely to damage your hardware. this throttling happens for a reason.). It could be enough to clean out your fans and heat sinks, if they've collected a bunch of dust. They also make cooling "docks" or "pads" the laptop sits on that help keep fresh air around the laptop, to aid cooling. Here's one randomly selected on amazon to give you the idea. I am not recommending this model, or even suggesting this is the right solution in general, just giving you options if you really do think it's thermal.
I'm worried it might be a video card issue – like maybe your video card overheated while playing a game and is damaged. If you think this could be the issue, you might try to keep your laptop cool while gaming on it. I like to prop my laptop up on 4 disposable water bottle lids and get a fan to blow air under it. Or for a less ghetto solution, you could get a cooling pad like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NU5O9C/
35GB Should be enough for you to bootcamp and install steam on, you won't have room for much else though if you decide that you like using Windows for other applications (and increasing a partition size is a huge pain in the ass).
Is CS:GO actually causing your MacBook to overheat (loss in performance or malfunctions) or is the exterior warm / fans kicking on high? Macbooks actually use the frame to help vent heat from the interior components, and that is why it seems like it gets warm to the touch easily.
Either way, I do tend to notice less heat issues running games in bootcamp just because they are better optimized, and also Windows has more features for manual fan control to help with heating issues. (OSX has a couple options but Windows has more that are more robust). If you are still having issues with heat, I'd also highly recommend getting something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
Probably not. You can double check your manual. I don't blame you for not wanting to take it apart. I'm really not sure what else to check in your case.
Maybe just visit the drivers page for your laptop and make sure they don't have some kind of updated Windows 10 power profile software or anything. Also, if you got the cash, I would suggest getting something like this for any gaming laptop, regardless of temps: https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
TL;DR: point a fan at it
Back in the early 00's I spent all my high school graduation money on an Alien A51m laptop. You want to talk about overheating? This sucker had a full-blown desktop Pentium 4 inside. Astonishingly, the thing never shut itself off but the ATI GPU would overheat and throttle itself in short order, reducing fps to the single digits.
How did I stop this? I elevated the rear of the laptop to give it more room to breathe, and I pointed one of those 6" spring-clamp desk fans at it.
So you can get a fan. Or you can buy something like THIS.
Targus Lap Chill Mat for Laptop, Black/Gray (AWE55US) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_LJnoxbCE3S3D9 What do you guys think about this guy? Seems like it would work well and is light enough that it works for me and is in my price range.
A solid cooling pad/mat to put it on. As mine has gotten older, it runs hot (and my leg would suffer greatly). I use something similar to this, but there's a number of options out there.
I'm using that exact laptop to play right now - not at max settings, but definitely good enough to do anything you would want/need to do in game - I've experienced no problems at all - I do use (and recommend) this as well:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002NU5O9C/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Really liking the chill mat - had no problems with the laptop getting hot at all and I like to be able to put it on my actual lap - based on where I'm playing right now (living room instead of at a desk/table)
If you have any specific questions feel free to hit me up and I'll try to help!
I took off the panel to access the Memory and you can kind of spray out one of the fans (the left one) doing that.
By fan under the computer I meant I got something like this
Have a Dell. Getting this laptop fan changed my game for the better. I no longer worry about my computer killing itself lol
I have one of these I quite like it
Maybe this cooling pad from Targus?
However, if you'd like to spend more on what might seem like a quality one, take a look at this one:e air it blows isn't that efficient, but it's enough to cool it off by a few degrees.

However, if you'd like to spend more on what might seem like a quality one, take a look on this one:
You can adjust the fans to your liking and it seems portable which is a nice addition to me, but I can't provide any personal info since I never owned one.

I have this. The fan is still loud, but the laptop doesn't overheat and I don't get burned gaming in my recliner: Targus Portable Lightweight Chill... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NU5O9C?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you really want to play on your lap I bought this and it works nicely:
https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
Lap stays comfortable, helps keep the laptop cooler for better performance, and even if you set it up on a desk it'll still help keep your laptop cool, like mine a lot.
Yes, but you will need to put the laptop on something in order to not burn your legs. https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=sr\_1\_3?dchild=1&keywords=targus+laptop+cooling&qid=1624563451&sr=8-3
Get a Targus Chill Mat. It has a flat base to use on a lap and it puts some distance between your lap and the laptop, so it can draw some air.
https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
I like the "portable lightweight chill matt" from Targus shown here. I use it on my lap so I needed one with rounded edges and a closed bottom. There may be better options for gaming at one's desk, but I'm pretty happy with this one.
A decent cooling pad and a hard mouse pad would be decent
Alternatively something like a lap desk could interest you
If you want performance, it generates a lot of heat. It is what it is. But I'm not here to be a downer, I'm here to provide a real solution!
https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
That's what I use. Gaming with my laptop on my lap is a no-go, gaming with my laptop on that cooling pad on my lap is comfortable, no heat issues whatsoever. I use a stiff mousepad with it that's stiff enough I can have it on the couch or bed next to me with my mouse on it and it works well.

The cooling pads he tested were all pretty much the same performance wise. I have this:
https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
I got it for when I use my laptop on my lap and I think it works well for it's purpose. As long as I have it I can also use it when the laptop is on the desk.
Technically yes, but I've had it on this cooling pad for forever.
Have you looked at Amazon - Everything has negative reviews.. When reading a review you have to realize some (most? [ No I do not have a superiority complex =P ] ) are idiots..
Look for one that gets an aggregated 4 star or better review and read both the positive and negative reviews -- See WHY they are giving them such a review.. Is the negative review because the person is an idiot and does not know how to use something OR if they feel they should be getting 24 karat quality with titanium / carbon fiber construction for $5....
What you are looking for in a Laptop cooling station is a platform with plenty of ventilation holes and a surface of aluminum that the laptop sits on to help draw the heat from the bottom of the laptop..
Do you need something that is adjustable or just a wedge that it sits on?
Do you plan on sitting with this in your lap? (Wedge versions are great for this)
What size laptop? you do not want to get something huge if you have a smaller laptop and you do not want to get something that your laptop will not fit on fully..
Not a wedge but any of the 3 in there are decent looking.. https://www.amazon.com/Cooling-Vanble-Portable-Adjustable-Warranty/dp/B01H89Z082/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1514098670&sr=8-18&keywords=Fan%2BChill%2BMat%2Bfor%2BLaptop&refinements=p_72%3A2661618011&th=1
oh sorry here's something, I just googled it by all means i'm not recommending this one, just one for example: https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
A lot of good recommendations here for some kind of cooling pad, and that's spot on. I'd like to recommend one that I think is very good, and point out some of the serious negatives to some others.
Oh, and have you checked to make sure your fans are actually working, and working well? blow em' out, and just try to see if they're really running well. You might want to consider replacing them with better fans. That's just an option.
Now, for the cooling pad. It's kind of important to know where you use this laptop. If you use it exclusively on a hard surface like a table, almost any cooling pad will do. If you use your laptop on your lap, in bed, sitting ontop of a blanket, or any other surface that will block the air intake on your laptop, it may also block the air intake on a cooling pad. Some cooling pads are really just made for a table anyways, and if you were to put them on a soft surface like a blanket, or your lap, not only can you block the air intake, you can even end up catching the fan on something, and additionally the bottom surface may be very uncomfortable. It may be made to sit on a table, not your lap/bed.
My sister uses her laptop almost exclusively on her lap or in bed, so when I went looking for a cooling pad for her as a gift, I really did my research, and what I came up with as pretty much the best cooling pad for the price was the Targus Chill Mat.
The top surface is nice, but check out the sides/bottom. A lot of pads have the air intake directly on the bottom. This has totally open sides for air intake, and the bottom resting on a blanket or your lap doesn't block intake AT ALL. I think it's damn good for the price. If you decide to get a cooling pad, and you want to spend a lot more or less (you get what you pay for) really make sure you get a clear view of how and where it takes in air, and how comfortable the bottom looks, if you have any intention of using it on a soft surface.
I like this cooling pad. It isn’t a fan you’ll even hear. It’s comfortable on your lap, creates a gap for your laptop to breathe, and pushes air into the intakes. This model has two fans. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VT9MJ7S9TRDDV7J3QY5X?psc=1
If you’re using your laptop primarily on a table, you could use a cooling pad with more blowing force.
I like this one http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-AWE55US-Black-Gray/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1309409109&sr=8-3 but sometimes I feel that it isn't cool enough.
