It's a book by a guy who now does speaking engagements at convocations, PD days, and teacher conferences wherein he comes barreling into the room shouting and gesticulating like a speed freak, urging us to give up even more of our energy/ family time/ personal resources to create immersive learning experiences to better engage our students. (I've seen him speak twice now. Dude's creative, but he preaches entirely untenable, gimmicky, teacher-shaming, flaming garbage.)
Teach Like a Pirate: Increase Student Engagement, Boost Your Creativity, and Transform Your Life as an Educator sounds perfect for what you're asking. It's not English-specific, but everything Burgess suggests works in the English classroom. I first started implementing some of its strategies last year, and in our school's end-of-year student survey, 100% of my students said that I "make learning fun," so it certainly did something for me!
